The beauty of the NHL playoffs is that they never seem to deliver what you’re expecting. After the Flyers couldn’t solve Ryan Miller at home in Game 1 and left Philadelphia in a series split with goaltending woes, they were definite underdogs in Game 3.

No Chris Pronger and Brian Boucher replacing Sergei Bobrovsky in goal in a road game? It didn’t exactly sound like a recipe for success. I for one didn’t expect much from the Flyers. But they surprised by beating Miller four more times – and now nine times in two games.

The big question now is: are the Flyers over the hump and ready to dominate? Or is this set to be a back-and-forth series?

On one hand, the Flyers are 6-0-2 over their last eight trips to Buffalo including the regular season. Even though the HSBC Arena can be an intimidating place to play, the Flyers aren’t fazed, maybe because their own fans are tougher on them than road fans at times. Philly also seems to play with more confidence in front of Boucher than when Sergei Bobrovsky is in net.

At the same time, the Sabres are a good team playing at home. Miller is too good to allow four-plus goals in a third consecutive start – isn’t he?

The pick:

The Sabres have reason to sweat. The Flyer forwards have awakened and we know how things turned out when that happened last season. Buffalo can’t to go back to Philly down 3-1 – especially with Chris Pronger eyeing a Game-5 return.

But the Sabres have one of the league’s best coaches in Lindy Ruff. They also got to the playoffs by pulling out win after win with their backs really to the wall. They seem to play their best when the pressure is highest. I like them to bounce back and win a close one to even the series at two games apiece.

Flyers vs Sabres prediction: Sabres 3, Flyers 2

Money Line: Sabres -120
Spread: Flyers +1.5
Over/Under: UNDER 5.5
