The Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers both completed seven-game wars earlier this week and there’s no rest for the weary as they prepare to pound the tar out of each other starting this Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins are out to conquer demons in this series after they blew a 3-0 lead to Philly last season. If the first round against Montreal was any indication, Boston could be up to the task.

The Bruins were resilient against a Montreal team that had won 24 of 32 playoff series against them. After falling behind 2-0 in the series, they bounced back to even the series 2-2 and won three of the final four games in overtime.

I like Boston’s chances in this series. It has the goaltending advantage with Tim Thomas and it’s the healthier team; the Flyers won’t have Jeff Carter for Game 1 and Chris Pronger is nowhere near 100 per cent.

However, I wonder if Boston is walking into a buzzsaw on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins could be exhausted after three of their last four games went to OT and they’ve done a lot of travelling. Meanwhile, the Flyers played Game 7 against Buffalo at home and have had an extra day off. While Brian Boucher is the inferior netminder, he’s also very streaky; remember when he got five shutouts in a row one season? He came up big against Buffalo when it mattered on Tuesday, so he might be “on” for Saturday.

I see Game 1 as a tired team, happy after an emotional series, hitting the road to play a fresh team that finally turned a corner late in its series and will be playing in front of a raucous home crowd. Especially for the Bruins defense, it will be an adjustment to face the Flyer forwards. Mike Richards and company are just a more physical bunch than one Montreal had to offer.

I still have a good feeling about Boston overall in the series but I think they’ll need a game to adjust. Take the Flyers in Game 1.

Bruins vs Flyers prediction: Flyers 4, Bruins 1

Money Line: Flyers -130
Spread: Flyers -1.5
