Ca-rey! Ca-rey! The chants of the Montreal netminder’s name just won’t stop. Carey Price looks unstoppable right now. On the season, he has 17 wins, a 1.92 goals against average, a .936 save percentage and four shutouts. If it weren’t for Tim Thomas, he’d be running away with the Vezina Trophy.

He’s on fire of late, winning five of his last six starts and allowing exactly one goal in all five of those wins. Before you worry about Price’s chances to stay hot against the powerhouse Red Wings in Hockeytown, it’s worth noting that he’s actually been better on the road this season. Away from the Bell Centre, Price has a 1.78 goals against average and .940 save percentage.

Price has also been solid over three career starts against the Red Wings (whose personnel hasn’t changed much since he last faced them), compiling a 1-1-1 record with a 2.27 goals against average and .931 save percentage.

The Red Wings are tied for the highest -scoring team in the NHL but are in a skid right now, losing three straight games. That includes consecutive home defeats to Nashville and San Jose. On one hand, we have to assume the Red Wings will snap out of their slump some time soon. On the other, Price is so dialed in that it feels wrong to bet against him.

My gut tells me you shouldn’t try to pick a winner here. I could see Detroit grinding out a close win but you never know considering what Price has done of late. The better bet is the UNDER. Of Montreal’s 11 road games this season, 10 have gone UNDER the total. I like the odds of this being a 2-1 game.

NHL Trends:

Montreal is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 14 of Montreal’s last 19 games
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Montreal’s last 5 games when playing Detroit
The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Montreal’s last 11 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Detroit’s last 5 games when playing Montreal
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Detroit’s last 6 games at home
Detroit is 7-2 SU in its last 9 games when playing at home against Montreal
Detroit is 14-5 SU in its last 19 games when playing Montreal

Pick: UNDER 5.5

No one in Montreal is shedding too many tears over Halak, eh?
Hopefully Subban conducts himself the… “right” way in this Original Six tilt!
