In a battle of Original 6 teams, the Montreal Canadiens, winners of two straight games travel to MSG to take on a Rangers team that has won three straight games. The Rangers have been solid while the Canadiens are trying to clamor out from underneath of a bad month of December.
The Montreal Canadiens have had trouble scoring goals – surprise! They are 26th in the NHL (2.5 goals per game) and word is that they will be without one of their offensive stars Mike Cammalleri for Tuesday’s game. Injuries have riddled this team with Cammalleri, Andre Markov and Josh Jorges.
Carey Price is 3-7-1 in his last 11 starts but has shown signs of life by going 2-0-0 with a 1.41 goals against average in his last two.
The New York Rangers traded for Wojtek Wolski on Monday in the hope that he can regain the form he had after getting traded to Phoenix last season. The Rangers needed to fill a role – Alex Frolov was lost to a season ending injury.
The Rangers have the 12th best offense in the NHL – 2.9 goals per game. However they do have remarkable depth. The Rangers have 21 players with at least one goal and five players with at least 10.
Henrik Lundqvist has stepped up and given the Rangers all they could hope for in the last two weeks. He is 3-0-1 with a 1.45 goals against average.
Betting Prediction: The Montreal Canadiens are 2-7 in their last nine road games and are 2-6 in their last eight trips to MSG. This game should be all Rangers – Lundqvist should be able to stifle what little offense Montreal has.
Betting Pick: NY Rangers -150
