After a sizzling start to the season, the St. Louis Blues have cooled significantly. It’s easy to see why: Jaroslav Halak. The Blues are 23rd in the league in goals per game and 25th on the power play. They were winning games early on this season because Halak was playing amazingly well in net and they also allow the fewest shots in the league.

But as soon as Halak hit a cold spell, the losses started piling up, as the Blues’ offense isn’t good enough to carry them. Leading scorer Andy McDonald has just 17 points in 22 games. Halak has righted the ship recently but the Blues are still struggling to score and have lost seven of 10.

The defending champion Blackhawks haven’t looked at all like themselves this season, losing 11 of their first 26 games. Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien are lighting them up in Atlanta but, contrary to popular belief, Chicago isn’t missing them that much on the scoresheet. The Hawks are still eighth in the league with 3.0 goals per game, getting their usual scoring from Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa but also a breakout showing from Patrick Sharp, who has 27 points.

The real problem is keeping pucks out. Marty Turco hasn’t been as good as Anti Niemi was last year and the Hawks allow just fewer than three goals a game as a team.

Still, Chicago should be really energized returning home after going 4-2 on a vicious, six-game western road trip. The Madhouse on Madison will rock tonight. The home team has won four straight in this series and Chicago has won six of nine against St. Louis. I love the Hawks tonight.

Pick: Blackhawks -135
