Then Chicago Blackhawks will be looking to avenge a loss on Friday night in Vancouver while at the same time leapfrogging the Flames and possibly entering the Top 8 in the Western Conference. The Hawks and the Flames have been Hot of late and are both serious threats to bump one or two of the teams that currently occupy Western Conference playoff spots.

Chicago has looked good over the past two weeks – they are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, are in 11th place in the West, but are just two points back of the Los Angeles Kings for eighth spot in the Conference. However, the Hawks have lost three of their last four games and need to go on a run in order to position themselves comfortably.

Chicago currently has the fourth raked offense in the NHL (3.2 goals per game). Three lines are currently contributing consistently – Jonathan Toews has two goals and five assists in his last two games, Dave Bolland has seven goals and three assists in nine games, Fernando Pisani has three points in two and Troy Brouwer has seven points in six games. Chicago is deep and they are all playing well at present.

The Chicago defense has let them down lately. They are 15th ranked and give up 2.8 goals per game. Both goaltenders have struggled but expect Coty Crawford (0-2-0 with a 3.80 goals against average in two games) to start.

The Flames are on fire having only lost one time in regulation in their last 13 games (8-1-4). Points in 12 of 13 games has the Flames right back into a most improbable playoff position! Calgary sits in 10th place in the Western Conference – one point back of eight place LA and one point up on 11th place Chicago.

Calgary has found a scoring touch and has climbed to the 16th best offense in the NHL (2.7 goals per game). Jarome Iginla has been consistently good over the past month with 14 points in his last 13 games, Brendan Morrison has four goals and six assists during a seven game points streak and Alex Tanguay is finally starting to pay dividends with four points in two games.

Calgary’s turnaround has mirrored Mikka Kiprusoff’s recent strong play. After struggling for much of the season, Kiprusoff has gone 6-0-1 in his last seven games with a 1.92 goals against average. However, in his last 10 games against Chicago, he is 1-7-2 with a 4.31 goals against average.

Betting Prediction: The Chicago Blackhawks are 11-8-3 on the road this season but are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games versus the Flames. Overall, Chicago is 13-3 in the last 16 games against the Flames. The Calgary Flames are 14-9-2 at home this season and are 6-0-1 in their last seven games. The home team is 9-3 in the last 12 games in the series.

This is as important a game half way through the season as there can be. The Flames have had their issues with the Hawks in the last couple of years but I think their struggles end Monday night. Goaltending will be the difference – Kiprusoff is hot and Crawford is not!

Pick: Calgary Flames even and the Over – 5.5 goals
