Habs vs Bruins Playoff Betting?

Habs and bruins Seek 3-2 Series Lead – Game 5 Saturday Night

The series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston bruins has been razor-close thus far – but if either team was able to hold serve on their home ice, we would be looking at a possible elimination game.

ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Boston Bruins head home after a dramatic 1-0 OT win on Thursday night, happy having earned a split in Montreal after dropping Game 1 of the series in Boston. Both teams have suffered from a lack of production from their top lines in the series – either one of those lines could silence the criticism with a good performance in Game 5.

The Montreal Canadiens are perhaps a little unlucky not to be up 3-1 in the series but to a man – they are all saying the right things ahead of Game 5. There seems to be no panic in the dressing room and rightfully so.

The Habs absolutely need their top line to step up in Game 5 and they are more than due. Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais have not been good – just one assist each in the first four games – just three points apiece in the playoffs so far! And the Canadiens are winning. Rene Bourque and Brian Gionta are pointless in their last three games as well – it is a wonder that Montreal is even! But they have to get going sometime and when they do – Montreal becomes more dangerous.

PK Subban was held off the score sheet on Thursday night – the first time in the series thus far but his game is still All-World right now. Thomas Vanek still has three points in three games, Dale Weise has two points in two games and Mike Weaver has two points in three games. Montreal was held off the score sheet for the first time in the playoffs Thursday – I wouldn`t expect it to happen again.

Carey Price has been terrific – no worries about his game as we near Saturday night`s clash. He made 34 saves Thursday and was victimized by a bad bounce on the only goal of the game. He is 1-1-0 with a 1.49 GAA and terrific .952 save percentage in his last two starts.

The Boston Bruins can breathe a sigh of relief after tying the series in Game 4 but there isn`t a whole lot of time to celebrate. One good thing that the Bruins can take from Game 4 is the play of Tuukka Rask who had by far his best effort of the series in posting his fifth playoff shutout with 33 saves. He is now matching Carey Price save-for-save after struggling early. Rask is 1-1-0 with a 1.51 GAA and .948 save percentage in his last two starts.

Boston`s top line continues to be a non-factor – it was call-up Matt Fraser that was the hero of Game 4. Brad Marchand has five points in the series and Milan Lucic has six points in his last six games but Lucic has been ineffective through long stretches – more consistency is essential going forward.

Jarome Iginla has just one point in four games and Loui Eriksson is pointless in three games – they like the big names on the Canadiens have to break out sometime.

A few trends to consider:
• Over is 7-1-2 in MON last 10 vs. Atlantic.
• Over is 5-1-2 in MON last 8 overall.
• Over is 5-1-2 in MON last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.
• Over is 12-4-5 in BOS last 21 Sat. games.
• BOS are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
• BOS are 41-14 in their last 55 home games.
• MON are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.

Despite the two losses to Boston in the series the Habs have still gotten the best of the Bruins the last couple of season – Montreal`s speed continues to be a problem for the President`s Trophy winners. Boston is just 3-2 at home so far in the playoffs – vulnerable in their own building. The Canadiens have won four of five at the Garden as well. I can’t resist the Habs as such a big underdog here.

Pick: Montreal Canadiens +166
