Whoa, daddy. The Pens were the sports wagering underdogs in Game 5, but few NHL betting fans saw the 5-0 massacre coming.CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR TOP NHL CAPPERS —–>
Pittsburgh got down early and the discipline went out the window; the dumb penalties piled up, even from Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and the Wings’ dynamite power play erupted for four goals. Pavel Datsyuk returned from injury and made an immediate impact, setting up two goals and taking the defensive pressure off Henrik Zetterberg.
It’s still too early to give up on the Pens. As ugly as they’ve been as sportsbook picks on the road, seemingly wilting against hostile crowds, they still instill confidence at home. They seem to be more physical and defensively conscientious at Mellon Arena, so Stanley Cup betting fans should expect an improved effort in Game 6. Marc-Andre Fleury should bounce back too; he’s had few problems at home and the goals weren’t his fault in Game 5.
The Pens should take Game 6 and force an epic deciding contest, but they better stay out of the box. Their lack of maturity Saturday was inexcusable and Detroit will have its parade soon if the Pens don’t smarten up.
Sports book pick: Penguins -130
