No matter what the sport is, Game 7s are always epic. We’ll be in for another epic battle when the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals meet in Game 7 of Conference Quarterfinals. Theres already been one epic Game 7 between the two teams and it was deemed the “Easter Epic” back in 1987.

The game went 4 overtimes until the Islanders scored and clinched the series. This will be the first Game 7 of the 2015 postseason.

New York Islanders

The Islanders got a big contribution from their Captain in Game 6 as John Tavares scored a goal and dished out an assist in the 3-1 home win. Islanders fans and players hope that wasn’t the last time they’ll see the inside of the Nassau Coliseum this season. In order to keep the building open for hockey longer, they’ll need a road win to advance.

If they wanted even more incentive to continue their season, a win on Monday would result in a 2nd round matchup against in state rival, the New York Rangers.

If the Islanders hope to pull off the Game 7 win, goaltender Jaroslav Halak will need to be in top form. Halak turned away 38 of the 39 shots he faced in Game 6.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

In his career, Halak has won two Game 7s, both in 2010 when he played for Montreal.

In the series, Halak has a 2.34 goals against and has held Washington to two goals or less in 4 of the games.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals hope history doesn’t repeat itself on Monday when they get set to play in Game 7. Not only did they lose the epic battle against New York, but they’re just 3-9 in Game 7s, including 2-7 at home. Monday’s contest will mark the 8th Game 7 for Washington over the past 8 seasons.

If Washington wants to avoid a repeat their Game 7 woes, they’ll need the Captain, Alexander Ovechkin, to continue is solid play.

Ovechkin tallied his 4th point of the series with an assist of the lone Capitals’ goal in Game 6. The Russian has recorded 32 career postseason assists.

Like his counterpart, Capitals’ goalie Braden Holtby has been dominant in this series.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Holtby has just a 1.75 goals against in this series and has only allowed the Islanders to score 3 goals or more one time.

NHL Hockey Betting Trends:

  • Islanders are 5-11 in their last 16 vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Islanders are 7-19 in their last 26 Conference Quarterfinals games.
  • Capitals are 14-6 in their last 20 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Capitals are 6-15 in their last 21 Monday games

Series Stats

Both teams have struggled mightily on the power play. Washington is just 2 of 13, while the Islanders haven’t scored in any of their 13 PP opportunities.

Free 4* NHL Pick: Washington Capitals -137

Even though history isn’t on the side of Washington, home ice will play a key role. In the regular season, the home team won every matchup.

Washington 2, New York 1

The place will obviously be loud and the Islanders could easily become flustered. An early goal for either side is a major key as neither team wants to deal with coming from behind.
