Red Wings vs. Coyotes Preview

One of the most unlikely of Game 7’s will take place in sunny Arizona on Tuesday night between playoff royalty, the Detroit Red Wings and the biggest NHL surprise in years, the Phoenix Coyotes. It is clear which team has the most to lose in this contest and the pressure might just be the difference in the end.

The Detroit Red Wings really had their chance to wrap up this series. Instead, they laid an egg on home ice on Sunday.

Three power plays in the first five minutes of the game resulting in a 1-0 lead for the shorthanded team was not a good start. Now they have to face a care free pumped up team in their own building in order to advance.

The Detroit Red Wings appear to have become a one line team. When Henrik Zetterberg is shut down, this is a different team.

Game 6 is proof – Zetterberg was pointless and the Wings were listless. Holmstrom, Datsuyk, Franzen, Filppula and Kronwall had better find a way to step up, Zetterberg is proving that he can’t do it all.

Jimmy Howard has not quite been the answer in net for the Wings. He has looked good at times (one total goal allowed in two games) and has looked weak in others (at least four goals allowed in three of the six games). He said that the Coyotes “got lucky” in Game 6 – let’s see if Phoenix can make him eat his words.

The Phoenix Coyotes have been impossible to figure out – impossible! Just when you think that they are on the ropes, the Yotes have a way of crawling back. Now they find themselves as the most complete team in the playoffs. Phoenix has relied on no one player to help them advance.

They have had thirteen different players register goals in the six games and have gotten points from seventeen roster players. Absolutely incredible!

The Coyotes also boast one of the most consistent goaltenders on the planet. Ilya Bryzgalov has been incredible in the playoffs and is on the verge of becoming a household name is across the league.

Without Shane Doan, Bryzgalov is as close to a Captain as the Coyotes have.

So what do you like? Do you like the experience and the pedigree? Or do you like the underdog?

I like the underdog in an exciting game. I Believe!
