Has anyone seen the real Pekka Rinne? The Nashville Predators goaltender finished third in the NHL this season in goals against average and save percentage but has picked precisely the wrong time to go into a slump. The defensive minded Preds will need Rinne to be better – their game plan is predicated on strong defense!
Nashville will return to California tied in their series and with momentum clearly having swung away from them. Not only is Pekka Rinne struggling but the Preds may be forced to play without Martin Erat who left Wednesday’s game after getting obliterated by Jarku Ruutu. What looked like a series that Nashville was in control of suddenly looks like a series in which the Preds have an uphill climb.
Sergei Kostitsyn has been the only consistent offensive Predator. With Martin Erat out, the onus falls on Mike Fisher and Patric Hornqvist who have been OK in the series so far.
Pekka Rinne was pulled in Game 4 after giving up six goals on 29 shots. To be fair, the Ducks are looking as dangerous as ever in the series and outshot Nashville 13-3 in the third period of Game 4.
While the Predators are creating more questions than answers as the series is progressing, the Duck appear to be rounding into form. The offense has been strong and the goaltending has been surprisingly stout.
The Ducks will get Bobby Ryan back after a two game suspension. He only adds to an offense that is clicking on all cylinders. Corry Perry has a whopping eight points in his last three games and Teemu Selanne leads the playoffs with five goals. Anaheim is quietly regaining the form that saw them finish as the hottest team in the NHL.
Goaltending has been more than adequate for the Ducks so far in the series. Ray Emery has stopped 83 of the 93 shots that he has faced in the last three games.

With Erat certain to sit, Rinne struggling mightily, look for the Ducks to welcome Bobby Ryan back in style.
