Shark Return Home Looking to Finish Kings

The Los Angeles Kings have a little fight left in them after all. Following three straight demoralizing losses in their opening round series with the San Jose Sharks, the Kings finally showed up Thursday night, played a full 60 minutes and walked away with a convincing 6-3 victory.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Kings however – they travel north to take on the Sharks in Game 5 Saturday night in a building they lost the first two games of the series by a combined 13-5 score.

The Kings tweaked their lines in Game 4 and it paid dividends. Dustin Brown played with Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik – Gaborik had two goals and Brown got his first two points of the series with an assist and an empty-netter. Justin Williams was moved to a line with Jarret Stoll and Dwight King – he scored twice in Game 4.

Some more good news comes in the form of Jonathan Quick. He made some terrific game-changing saves but is still falling victim to LA’s defense giving up a ton of chances. The Kings really need to tighten up defensively – they are hanging Quick out to dry!

The Sharks left some in the tank after Game 4. Thursday night’s game was basically over after two periods – San Jose looked like they took the foot off the gas in the third. Still the offense is clicking – Patrick Marleau has three goals and four assists in the series and Joe Pavelski has six and most of that damage was on home ice.

The Sharks have beaten the Kings five straight times at home during the playoffs and 12 of 13 times since the start of the 2011-12 season – there shouldn’t be a lot of panic for the Sharks. They generated some chances Thursday night but had a bad night defensively.

Consider Thursday night’s game a wake-up call.

A few trends to consider:
• Under is 8-2-3 in LA last 13 Sat. games.
• LA are 12-4 in their last 16 games following a win.
• LA are 3-7 in their last 10 Sat. games.
• SJ are 46-14 in their last 60 home games.
• Under is 33-13-6 in SJ last 52 Sat. games.
• LA are 15-38 in the last 53 meetings in San Jose.
• Under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings in San Jose.

San Jose has scored 20 goals in the four games so far – 20! The Kings simply don’t look like the defensive juggernaut that they need to be. It’s pretty hard to like the Kings on the road when they are giving up goals by the boatload – they could become one of the most disappointing teams of the 2014 playoffs!

Pick: San Jose Sharks -161
