Canucks vs. Kings Game 4 Preview

C’mon ref! That’s what was heard in just about every household in Vancouver on Monday night. After a slew of penalties that led to Kings power play goals and then a brutal disallowed goal off the skate of Daniel Sedin, the Canucks now find themselves behind in the series.

Game 4 is important to say the least. Let’s see if the Canucks have the mental makeup to rebound from an adversity that they rarely saw during the regular season.

The Vancouver Canucks must feel like they have been robbed in two of the three games in the series. Their overtime Too Many Men call in Game 2 and then their disallowed goal in the third period of Game 3 are bad breaks for sure, but they are in the past and it is time to move on.

The Canucks did some good things on Monday, but brutal penalty killing and suspect goaltending ruined their chance for a 2-1 series lead.

On offense, the Canucks were led once again by Mikael Sameulsson who recorded a goal and an assist, Ryan Kessler’s two assists, and Mason Raymond and Daniel Sedin who scored a goal each.

Regular season scoring champion Henrik Sedin added an assist to take his three game total to a whopping three points! Where have you gone Henrik Sedin???

Defensively, Coach Alain Vigneault made the decision that he had to. Sit Andrew “the penalty machine” Alberts in favour of Aaron Rome. How does Rome repay his coach? He coughs up the puck in front of his own goal which leads to the Kings’ fourth goal.

Roberto Luongo got chased for the eighth time this season after giving up four goals on 16 shots.

The Los Angeles Kings brought the intensity, the passion and the fireworks to the rink on Monday night.

Although they only registered 23 shots on goal, the Kings were able to make the most of their chances. The youth and the experience on this team are gelling at the right time and Los Angeles is a bit of a scary team at the moment.

What can you say about the young defensive tandem of Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson.

Not only are they neutralizing the best offensive line in hockey, but they are contributing regularly in the offensive zone.

Drew Doughty scored a goal and had three assists on Monday night while Jack Johnson registered three assists. Amazing!

Michal Handzus scored twice and added an assist while Brad Richardson and Ryan Smyth each scored for the Kings. Los Angeles scored three of their five goals on the power play on Monday night taking their series total to an incredible seven for twelve.

Jonathan Quick made some timely stops on route to a 25 save, solid performance.

The Vancouver Canucks need to find a way to match the intensity of the LA Kings.

They also have to stay out of the damn penalty box. Roberto Luongo needs to bounce back in a big way or the Canucks are in big trouble.

I believe the Hockey Gods will finally give the Canucks some love and they respond with a victory to tie the series.
