Well, the writing certainly is on the wall for the Detroit Red Wings. Down 3-0 in their semi-final series against the resilient Sharks, Detroit will be looking for a way to play another day on Friday night. It’s not that the Wings have played badly in the series; it is simply that the Sharks have been very good. Simply put, this appears to be simply a bad matchup for the Wings who have lost 11 of their last 13 games to the San Jose Sharks.

San Jose beat the Wings last year with one line but this year it is almost solely a case of secondary scoring getting it done. Devin Setoguchi’s hat trick in Game 3 exemplifies the point and with Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture and Ryan Clowe playing at a high level the Sharks are an absolute nightmare to handle.

Defensively, the Sharks are fine – Antti Niemi has been stellar and the defensive corp. is showing up on the score sheet as well.

The Detroit Red Wings have been getting better as the series has gone along but still find themselves in a nearly insurmountable 3-0 hole. The defense has been OK and the offense is rounding into form – hopes are that it is not too late.

The offensive catalyst for the Wings, Henrik Zetterberg looked rusty in Game 1 but has picked up his play since (1 goals and two assist in his last two games). Coach Mike Babcock elected to split up Zetterberg and Pavel Datsuyk in Game 3 – a strategy that appeared to be working. Things are coming around offensively a little too late for the Wings unfortunately. I might be wise to stay out of overtime against the Sharks as well – they are 5-0 in extra-time this postseason!

NHL Betting Trends:
Over is 11-1-1 in SJ last 13 road games.
SJ are 14-3 in their last 17 vs. Central.
SJ are 22-7 in their last 29 games following a win.
Over is 10-2 in DET last 12 vs. Western Conference.
Over is 7-2 in DET last 9 overall.
DET are 306-134-16 in their last 456 home games.

Betting Prediction: The San Jose Sharks have absolutely owned the Wings in the last two seasons particularly in the playoffs but I cannot for the life of me see the Wings going down without an immense fight. Detroit is a proud franchise and is a very good team – no way they let the Sharks sweep them in Hockeytown!

Pick: Detroit Red Wings -135 and the Over 5-5 goals
