The Phoenix Coyotes could be playing their last game in Phoenix on Wednesday night as they try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the determined Detroit Red Wings. Detroit, despite the absence of their Regular Season points leader Henrik Zetterberg has dominated this series and subsequently leads 3-0 in the best-of-seven.
Detroit got a huge offensive game from Pavel Datsyuk in Game 2 but in Game 3 he was held off the score sheet. It didn’t matter however, the Wings were able to spread the offense around and prove why they have been the most complete team in the NHL in the last decade.
The Wings were the second best offensive team in the NHL during the Regular Season and their strong play has continued in the playoffs. They have scored four goals per game which is tops among all playoff teams. Everyone is playing well – all four lines are a threat to score.
Jimmy Howard has answered the bell in goal for the Wings and has given the solid goaltending that Wings fans wished for. Howard played exceptionally well in Game 3 and is definitely a reason for optimism going forward in Hockeytown!
The Phoenix Coyotes have dug themselves an insurmountable hole. Prior to the series it was thought that defense and goaltending could steal the series but those factors have not materialized. They have given up 12 goals in three games and have shown nothing that makes us think that they have any answer for the Wings.
Shane Doan, although being held off the score sheet in Game 3 has been the best offensive weapon for the Coyotes. He and Radim Vrbata have been great for Phoenix but their success has come almost exclusively on the power play. Five of Phoenix’s seven goals in the series have been scored with the man advantage. Needless to say, the Coyotes need better five-on-five play to scratch out a win or two in the series.
Ilya Bryzgalov has not been the difference maker that most had thought he would be in the three games so far. He has been shaky as has his defensive corp. in front of him.

Betting Prediction: The Detroit Red Wings were a very good road team during the Regular Season and are an incredible 21-7-3 in their last 31 games in Phoenix. Detroit has won four straight games at Jobing.com arena.
The Phoenix Coyotes are seriously overmatched in this series and likely will end their season on Wednesday night. All of the questions about the health, age and recent underwhelming play of the Wings have been answered very loudly. Bring out the brooms!
