Blackhawks vs. Flyers Game Four Preview

Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final was yet another beauty. End to end action, plenty of hits and a few goals all contributed to what has become a very competitive and entertaining series. Game 4 goes Friday night and if you are one that believes in momentum, you’d have to think that the Philadelphia Flyers are in good shape.

The Chicago Blackhawks got away from their game a little bit in Game 3, but it may have been more a product of Philadelphia’s play rather than their own.

The Hawks got outplayed, out chanced and outhit in Game 3 and paid the price both physically and on the score board. The furious forecheck was absent for the Hawks who will need to get back to their aggressive style on Friday night in order to return home with the chance to wrap up the Final.

Chicago’s Top Line finally generated a goal in the series but it took the beginning of the third period of Game 3 to do so.

Patrick Kane scored to put the Hawks ahead and he also added an assist. Jonathan Toews also registered his first point of the series, assisting on Kane’s goal. Overall, Chicago’s offense didn’t look that good in Game 3 and the pressure that they were able to generate in the first two games was all but gone.

Defensively, the Hawks played a decent game. They not only contributed two of the three Hawk goals, but they were responsible for withstanding their second straight third period onslaught.

Duncan Keith was the most dominant Blackhawk on the ice Wednesday and without Antti Niemi’s stellar play, this game would have been a massacre.

Two power play goals against turned out to be the difference.

Philadelphia played their third solid game of the Finals on Wednesday but this time they were rewarded with a win. Hockey karma reigned supreme on Wednesday and the Flyers got the win. The Flyers ended Chicago’s seven game road winning streak and stretched their home winning streak to six.

A disturbing trend continued in the series on Wednesday night.

The Top Line for the Flyers didn’t show up forcing the role players on the team to pick up the slack. Scott Hartnell was the best player on the ice and registered a goal and an assist in the game while Claude Giroux had a goal and two assists and Danny Briere tallied a goal and an assist. Ville Leino also played an amazing game giving the Flyers two and a half potent lines.

Chris Pronger continued his stellar playoffs and made a difference in Game 3. He has been a tower of strength on the blue line and has made the entire Philadelphia Flyers look legit.

He is an absolute nightmare to play against.

Michael Leighton bounced back with a 24 save effort in the win.

In a series in which every game has been decided by one goal, it is difficult to predict the outcome of each game.

Momentum however is a real thing and so is the confidence factor that was gained by the Flyers in Game 3.

The Flyers are now 8-1 on home ice in the playoffs and I expect the solid home play to continue on Friday night.
