On Sunday, the Flyers and Capitals played and it was a thrilling game. Both teams scored 1 goal apiece in the first period, but then the Flyers scored 3 straight unanswered goals in the next 25 minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead.

It looked like a win for the Flyers, but the Capitals rallied with 3 unanswered goals themselves in the last 9 minutes of the game including a goal from Alex Ovechkin with 48 seconds left in the game.

As we mentioned last week, the Philadelphia Flyers for most of the season had been a good defensive team, but of late they have been really bad. And right now it looks like there’s no sign of the Flyers figuring out their defensive struggles. In the last 6 games, the Philadelphia Flyers have gone over in 5 of those games.

On the offensive end, the Flyers have picked it up offensively. In the last 5 games the Flyers have scored 2.60 goals a game, which is more than their season average of 2.27 goals per game.

The Washington Capitals, meanwhile, are a very explosive offense as you might imagine with Alex Ovechkin. The Capitals average just under 3.00 goals a game which is good for 7th in the NHL. And in their last 5 games the Capitals have scored 22 goals and are 4-0-1 in that time span.

Defensively, the Capitals are in the lower half of league in terms of goals per game. Washington is 21st in the NHL and allow 2.85 goals per game. The Capitals are struggling so much defensively that they are carrying 3 goalies. Braden Holtby has been their starting goalie, but he’s struggled a bit and the Capitals are looking for a quality, consistent goalie.

Braden Holtby is 13-9-1, but his GAA is a 2.82 and his save percentage is .920. So, the Capitals are trying out Michal Neuvirth who’s played in 7 games and Philipp Grubauer who has played in 5 games. As for Tuesday’s game it’s still up in the air of who will start in front of the net.

Danny’s FREE NHL Pick:

All in all, the over looks good in this game. The Flyers have continued to struggle defensively and the Capitals have never really been stout on the defensive end anyway this year.

On Sunday, both teams put up 9 goals total and it isn’t a stretch for both teams to have a repeat performance on Tuesday. Plus, this is a good value play as well. It’s a plus money play and it’s the best pick.

Overall, I think the over is the best pick and it’s a good value pick as well. It’s at plus money and anytime you can get the best pick at plus money it’s a nice little bonus.

Pick: Over 5.5 (+106)
