Until then (and, given the fickleness of sports fans in south Florida, maybe even not then) you’ll be more likely to hear the dolphins in the Atlantic than a raucous cheer from the fans.

Both the Wild and the Panthers are hockey clubs with a pockmarked 2014 regular season to date.

With Minnesota, the question has most often been about the goaltending. Superstars Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are great to build around, but the franchise has vacillated between Nik Backstrom, Darcy Kuemper, Josh Harding and even Ilya Bryzgalov between the pipes – and that’s just in recent memory.

Florida has the pieces to be extremely good – in 2017. Until then, it will be learning on the fly, and the Panthers’ 7-5-6 record reflects that.

Florida’s goaltending is pretty solid between veteran Roberto Luongo – on his second tour of duty with the hockey club – and Al Montoya. The Panthers just need to bump along every facet of their game. Five-on-five and special teams both need improvement.

But, when it comes to intriguing prospects, one-man braintrust Dale Tallon has built a powerhouse. Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad, Aleksander Barkov – and that’s just the centers. Tallon understands that a winning team is built down the middle and he drafts and acquires accordingly.

Tallon assembled the pieces that is now the Chicago Blackhawks mini-dynasty, so he can be trusted to deliver on a rebuild.

Despite the indecision in net, it seems like Kuemper has grabbed the reins for good in the early part of this season. His 2.03 goals-against average is respectable.

The pressure in “The State of Hockey” is to win now, and it’s not easy playing in the ruthless Central division.

Literally every other team in the division looks great on a given night; divisional power brokers like the Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues are impeccably built teams.

All the Wild can do is bust out the tired cliches, and take it one game at a time.

In addition to Parise, Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek are dangerous up front, they’ll all need to be firing for the Wild to grab a road win on Monday night.

The thing about a young team like the Panthers is they make their share of mistakes.

Take the OVER

Minnesota is the kind of savvy crew to capitalize on these, and thus – so long as they aren’t enjoying too much beach time (who wants to spend winters in St. Paul, MN anyway?) should leave town with a notch in the win column.
