Both teams are coming off losses – the Sens lost 4-3 on overtime to the Canucks Tuesday while the Oilers are coming off a 3-2 loss to Nashville.

Senators

The Senators played pretty well in Vancouver Tuesday night erasing one goal deficits in three different occasions en route to an OT loss. That makes it three straight losses for the Sens.

The good news for the Sens is that some of their veteran leaders have caught up with the youngsters offensively.

Kyle Turris has two goals and one assist in two games, Mike Hoffman who is from British Columbia and who played his junior hockey in Edmonton has four points in four games and Mark Stone has two points in his last two games.

Ottawa enters Thursday’s game having given up 2.40 goals per game. Goaltending hasn’t necessarily been the issue – Craig Anderson is 2-0-2 with a 1.45 GAA and a very good .957 save percentage in his last four games overall.

Anderson is 7-4-1 with four shutouts in 13 starts versus the Oilers – he’s won four of his last five visits to Edmonton with a 1.58 GAA and two shutouts.

Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have yet to win in eight games against the Western Conference – the Sens will be a welcome sight as the Oilers have posted a 6-2 record against the East.

They have won their last four games on home ice versus the Eastern Conference while averaging 3.37 goals per game in those wins.

Edmonton will once again play without offensive leader Taylor Hall who is expected to miss another couple of weeks with injury. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has picked up the slack however posting five goals and three assists in Edmonton’s success against the East.

Jordan Eberle has also been very good lately – five points in his last four home games and assists in each of his last two games.

Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle will have to shine Thursday – the Oilers have had their issues with secondary scoring this year.

Defensive ineptitude is rearing its ugly head for the Oilers again – they are giving up a staggering 3.31 goals per game this season.

Not good when you are scoring 2.50 goals per game and your power play is just 1 for its last 27 attempts.

Ben Scrivens should get the start in goal Thursday – he is 4-6-0 with a 2.93 GAA and .900 save percentage this year’
