LA’s moved to within three points of a playoff spot with a 3-1 win against Washington on Saturday and started their current win streak with a 4-2 win over the Lightning February 7.

The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to be the highest scoring team in the NHL-3.22 goals per game. Five goals last night was just another example of the firepower this team has. There are six Lightning players that have more points that LA’s leading scorer Jeff Carter.

Five players scored in Tampa’s win last night including Steve Stamkos who now has 30 goals on the year.

Valtteri Filppula has seven points in seven games, Nikita Kucherov has six points in six, Brett Connolly has four points in four games, Anton Stralman has three points in two games and Alex Killorn has two points in his last two.

Translation – the Lightning are deep and they are talented up front – a serious challenge for any of their foes!

Ben Bishop got the win between the pipes last night making 33 saves – he was pulled in his three starts prior to that as the Lightning struggled to defend. Bishop was also pulled in the last matchup between the teams leaving the possibility of rookie Andrei Vasilevskiy getting the start. Don’t panic Lightning fans, Vasilevskiy is 4-1-1 with a 2.00 GAA and .932 save percentage in his last eight appearances.

The Los Angeles Kings took a while but they are finally starting to resemble a team that won the Stanley Cup last year. The offense has woken up and Jonathan Quick is finally starting to break out of an unflattering stretch after the All-Star break.

The Kings’ offense has found another gear during their current four game win streak. The team has scored 16 goals in the wins. Tyler Toffolo has seven points in four games, Jeff Carter has a goal and five assists in the last three outings, and Marian Gaborik who has five points in five games have led the way. Dwight Kings has five points in three games, Brayden McNabb has three points in three games, Justin Williams has three points in four games and Justin Brown has four points in five games.

Simply put the Kings are a handful right now – four lines are rolling and contributing every night either offensively or with their physical play. LA also leads the league again in hits per games (33.1) – a recipe that has made them one of the most successful organizations on the planet the last half-decade.

And how about Jonathan Quick’s recent play? Quick has allowed nine goals in the last four games overall and is 4-1-0 with a .949 save percentage in his career against Tampa Bay.

The arrows are pointing directly up for LA – all of the necessary parts of their game are clicking right now. The REAL Los Angeles Kings are starting to show up each and every night – a scary sign for the rest of the Western Conference.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 19-5-2 in TB last 26 Mon. games.
• TB are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 27-11-1 in TB last 39 road games.
• LA are 25-12 in their last 37 Mon. games.
• Under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.

The Lightning are 1-4-1 in their last six against Los Angeles and judging by the way the Kings are playing right now, I like that trend to continue. The Lightning played well last night in an emotional battle – it is hard to imagine them being able to bring enough tonight against a Kings team that knows they need every point from here on in.
