It’s a battle of worst versus first in the West on Friday night when the Ducks travel to Edmonton for the back half of a home and home with the Oilers.

Anaheim took the first leg on the mini-series 2-1 in Anaheim and will look to maintain their lead in the Western Conference.

Ducks

Anaheim has been rolling at a steady clip, despite sniper Corey Perry being in and out of the lineup for over a month. One of the main reasons I had the Ducks as the team to take it all this year was their depth and it has shown in spades with Perry unable to stay healthy.

Offseason addition Ryan Kesler has stepped up his game large on the second line and has tallied four goals and five points in his last three games.

The aforementioned Perry is expected to miss at least three weeks with a knee injury and Kesler and the second line will be relied upon heavily in his absence to provide supplementary scoring to Ryan Getzlaf and whoever Bruce Boudreau pairs him with.

With or without their big goal scorer the Ducks are getting it done and have won five straight games and put up 19 goals in that streak.

Oilers

Well the Oilers snapped out of an 11 games losing streak with a win over San Jose last Sunday. That’s the good news, the bad news is that they’ve started another two game losing skid that could very easily grow to three tonight.

If there’s some positives the Oilers had a pretty good showing in their loss to the Ducks in Anaheim by only losing 2-1, thanks in large part to former Ducks netminder Viktor Fasth who turned aside 32 shots in a losing effort.

It’s hard to find a lot to be enthusiastic about with this team right now, and they need to make some serious roster moves if there’s going to be any light at the end of this tunnel.

Aside from Taylor Hall having another solid season offensively with 17 points in 23 games, there’s not much to get excited about.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle have pitched in 18 points each in 27 and 28 games respectively, but it just hasn’t been enough to carry this group.

Ducks vs. Oilers 4* Free Pick

G0altending is everything for Edmonton in this match up as they’re likely going to be overwhelmed by the Ducks who are a very good team at home (10-3-3). The Oilers would be smart to go back to Fasth against his former team in a building he’s familiar with.

That being said, Fasth will have to be near perfect for Edmonton to win this one and I don’t think Edmonton will be able to generate enough offense as they’ll likely be chasing pucks all night.

Go with the Ducks.
