Vancouver will be without three of their top four defensemen on Friday night while the Rangers will carry on without Henrik Lundqvist who has been out since February 2.

The Vancouver Canucks have been pretty good the 10 days or so – they handled Boston, they lost a close game to Calgary on the road and they took care of business against Minnesota at home. The key lately has been balance – a balance that will be essential if the Canucks hope to overcome the loss of three of their top D-men.

The Vancouver Canucks offense has found another gear the last six games- they have scored 23 goals in their last six games winning four of them including last time out against Minnesota.

The Sedins along with Alex Burrows played perhaps their best game in a month against the Wild – they were a factor each and every time they hit the ice. Chris Higgins has five points in four games, Jannik Hansen has three points in three games, Radim Vrbata just has an eight game point streak snapped and players like Zack Kassian and Ronalds Kenins are showing up every night.

That said, no Nick Bonino and the absence of three core defensemen seems a little much for any team to overcome, especially against a good New York team and with a struggling keeper at the helm.

Ryan Miller figures to get the start between the pipes Thursday night after getting last game off against the Wild. He appears to be in a bit of a slump. Outside of a 5-0 shutout of the Penguins just over a week ago Miller has posted a 3.13 GAA in his last nine games. Miller is 1-2-0 in his last three starts overall with a 4.11 GAA and .867 save percentage over that span – yuk!

The New York Rangers haven’t missed a beat since Henrik Lundqvist went down with injury. They have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games overall and have scored 39 goals in their last nine games – an incredible 22 goals in their last four games to remain one of the better offenses in the game (3.13 goals per game).

It isn’t just a couple of guys getting it done offensively for New York – a number of Rangers are on current point streaks. Kevin Klein has four points in two games, Martin St. Louis and Chris Kreider have three points in two games, Rick Nash has six points in four games, Ryan McDonagh has four points in three games, Dan Boyle has three points in three games, Mark Staal has four points in four games and Lee Stempniak and Dan Girardi each have two points in two games.

Translation – the Rangers are deep, they are balanced and any one of four lines can and will score.

Goaltender Cam Talbot is slated to make his eighth straight start after giving up five goals against the Islanders last time out.

He has surrendered 19 goals in his last six games – thank goodness for a strong offense! Talbot has posted a respectable .923 save percentage in his last two starts so it isn’t quite as bad as the numbers may point out.

Expect a similar fate for the visiting side Thursday – there are just too many holes to plug for Vancouver – guys from the farm just don’t measure up against what the Rangers have been bringing night in and night out.

New York Rangers -143
