Vancouver is 2-3-0 in its past five games, having scored three goals in the three losses while the Preds have not lost in regulation since December 23 going 6-0-2 over that span. Nashville sits atop the overall standings nearly half way through the season – the Canucks will certainly be in tough on Tuesday night.

The Vancouver Canucks enter an important stretch of games as we near the half-way point of the season – it was this time last year that an epic slide saw them fall out of the playoff race and led to the demise of then coach John Tortarella.

Vancouver is coming off a lackluster 1-0 home loss to the Calgary Flames. Offensive woes have been the main reason why the Canucks are limping toward the All-Star break. The Sedins have struggled for any sort of consistency and the second line is not contributing like they had early in the season – a number of Canucks are struggling as we head into Tuesday’s game. Chris Higgins is pointless in four games, Alex Burrows hasn’t recorded a point in four games and Jannik Hansen has been held off the score sheet in his last five games.

Defensively the Canucks have been OK – the penalty kill is operating at a 94% clip in their last 16 games and probable starter Ryan Miller is 3-2-1 in his last six starts with a very good 1.83 GAA and .946 save percentage. He is 4-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA lifetime against Nashville but if he isn’t getting any support could be in danger of snapping his undefeated streak against Nashville Tuesday.

The Nashville Predators enter Tuesday night’s clash on a five game win streak that has vaulted them to the top of the NHL standings – they have lost just twice in regulation at Bridgestone Arena. We all knew that defense would be a strength of this team with Pekka Rinne between the pipes but nobody saw the drastic offensive improvement for this team this year.

The Preds are averaging 2.95 goals per game this season – they have averaged 4.00 goals per game in their last 11. Colin Wilson has 13 points in his last 10 games, Mike Fisher has seven goals and five assists in his past 14 games, Roman Josi has nine points in eight games and Shea Weber has three points in two games. Of course super-rookie Filip Forsberg has been a true difference maker for this team. Nashville is getting contributions from everyone in the lineup – they are shockingly dangerous in every aspect of the game right now – just look at the standings!

Nobody has benefitted more from the improved offensive play than Pekka Rinne. He has posted an average 2.55 goals against average in his last 10 games but hasn’t been defeated in regulation over that span (9-0-1).

However Rinne has allowed a 1.50 GAA in his last two starts, both wins, with a .947 save percentage. That said Rinne is 2-4-1 with a 3.56 GAA in his last nine starts in the series.
