Two of those teams meet in Vancouver on Tuesday night when the red-hot Winnipeg Jets pay visit to the Vancouver Canucks. Winnipeg will be after its sixth straight win Tuesday night but will be in tough against a Vancouver squad that has won four of their last five games and hasn’t lost to the Jets in 11 years.

Everything has been going right for the Winnipeg Jets the last couple of weeks – they have won five straight games while outscoring their opponents 15-5 over that span and sit in the second Wild-Card spot in the West – four points up on the Los Angeles Kings.

What’s impressive about the run is that the Jets have been getting it done without Dustin Byfuglien and Brian Little – both of whom could return to the lineup at any time.

Ondrej Pavelec has been remarkable between the pipes lately. In fact he was just named NHL First Star of the Week. He recorded a mark of 3-0-0 to go with a 0.97 goals against average and a .970 save percentage last week and gave up just one against Edmonton last night. Pavelec is stopping everything right now – awfully tough to beat.

The Jets have been scoring during their five game streak as well averaging 3 goals per game over that span. Drew Stafford has four goals and four assists during a six game point streak and he has six goals in his past 10 games.

He has just one point in six career games against Vancouver however. Blake Wheeler has 12 points in 10 games and Toby Enstrom has three points in his last four games.

The Winnipeg Jets are about as complete a team as there is in the NHL right now- no part of their game is showing any sort of weakness. If Byfuglien and Little return, the Jets are that much tougher a club – in a good position to keep the roll going and to finally snap a prolonged drought against…

The Vancouver Canucks are playing some good hockey – they have won six of their last eight games overall and will look to continue their domination over the Jets. The Canucks have a lot to play for – they currently sit inside a playoff spot but are just four points up on LA who is threatening – just four points back in ninth in the Western Conference.

The Canucks shrugged off an ugly loss to Columbus with a 3-1 win over Arizona Sunday. The team has recorded at least 40 shots on goal in each of their last three games and the goaltending from Eddie Lack has been sporadic to say the least.

Offensively the Canucks have been decent lately – they have been generating a ton of chances but have lacked finish to some extent. Leading scorer Daniel Sedin has two goals and four assists during a four game points streak, Radim Vrbata has been hot with four points in his last two games – those two have combined for 11 points in the last four games and registered two points apiece Sunday. Defensemen Yannik Weber has three points in two games and Alex Edler has four points in his last four games.

There are a number of struggling Canucks entering Tuesday’s game however – Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen are pointless in their last four games, Dan Hamhuis hasn’t recorded a point in six games and Ronalds Kenins hasn’t hit the score sheet in three games.

Eddie Lack will get the start in goal hoping to rebound from an ugly effort in a 6-3 loss to Columbus Friday. He is 1-1-0 with a 3.30 GAA and .893 save percentage in his last two starts. Lack has been inconsistent to say the least – who knows what to expect Tuesday?

The Vancouver Canucks seem to raise their game against good teams – the Jets are certainly playing well right now.

The Jets played last night and will likely be a tired team – hard to imagine them snapping an 11 year drought against the Canucks.

Vancouver Canucks -140

Winnipeg, riding a five game win streak as a huge underdog is tempting but common sense says that the Canucks, who are finally healthy and back at full strength take care of business against a team they obviously match up very well against.
