Vancouver has gone 3-2-1 so far during their extended trip while the Habs have gone just 1-5-1 in their last seven games overall. Montreal will be eager to get back on track and to avenge a 3-2 overtime loss to Vancouver October 30 but will have their hands full with a reborn Canucks team.

The Vancouver Canucks will be happy to be out of the province of Ontario where they lost both games this past weekend – a 4-3 OT loss to the struggling Senators Sunday followed a 5-2 loss in Toronto Saturday night.

Despite the losses Vancouver still boasts a very good 11-5-1 record on the road this year – they hadn’t lost two in a row away from home all season before Sunday`s loss.

Goal scoring hasn’t been a problem for the Canucks all season long – they have averaged 3.04 goals per game thus far but they have managed just three total tallies in their last two games – you’d have to think that an outburst is on the horizon.

Brad Richardson has five points on a three-game streak and has eight points in his last six, team leader in goals Radim Vrbata has three points in his last two games and the Sedins have been very good as well – they are tied for 15th in the league in points and Daniel has five points in his last four games.

But there are a few struggling Canucks – Chris Higgins, who once played for Montreal, Alex Burrows and Luca Sbisa are each pointless in their last five games. Vancouver’s success this year has been predicated on a balanced offense – those three players need to get going!

Ryan Miller is expected to get the start in goal Tuesday – he hasn’t been great lately despite sitting in second place in the NHL in wins (16). He has gone 1-2-0 with a 4.58 goals-against average in his past three starts since shutting out the New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets in consecutive games.

Dan Hamhuis (lower body), Zack Kassian (finger) and Shawn Matthias will all likely miss Tuesday’s game leaving Vancouver a tad thin in a number of key positions.

The Montreal Canadiens have fallen out of first place in the NHL overall standings and now sit fifth in the Eastern Conference. The reason for a 1-5-1 stretch? Goal scoring. They have netted just 13 goals in their last seven games and some big names are struggling to say the least.

David Desharnais is stuck at two goals on the season, Max Pacioretty hasn’t recorded a point in his last three games, PA Parenteau is pointless in five games and Tom Gilbert hasn’t hit the score sheet in 11 games.

However, PK Subban continues to do his part – he has five points in five games, Brendan Gallagher has two points in two games and Alex Galchenyuk has four points in his last five games.

All together Montreal sits in the bottom third in the NHL in terms of offense – they are averaging just 2.41 goals per game. The league’s third best faceoff man Lars Eller isn’t expected to play Tuesday – puck possession could be a problem for Montreal once again.

Defensively the Habs have been a tad suspect all season long – they are surrendering 2.59 goals per game and are coming off a contest in which they allowed four to Dallas. Carey Price, who will get the nod between the pipes Tuesday is 0-2-0 with a 3.56 GAA and .891 save percentage in his last two starts overall but is 9-3-0 at home this year.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 13-3-2 in VAN last 18 vs. Atlantic.
• VAN are 4-11 in their last 15 vs. Atlantic.
• MON are 10-3 in their last 13 Tue. games.
• MON are 10-4 in their last 14 home games.
• Under is 45-20-11 in MON last 76 Tue. games.
• Under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Montreal.
• VAN are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings.

Tuesday’s game is an intriguing matchup of the best road team in the NHL versus one of the better home teams in the game. I like the road underdog in this one.

Vancouver has a knack of bouncing back after a road loss and off two straight you can bet they will be motivated to end their season-long trip on a high.

Vancouver Canucks +110

It isn’t all that hard to get up for a game in Montreal – my guess is that the Canuck players do just that and continue Montreal’s December doldrums.
