The scuffling Boston Bruins will try maintaining their tenuous spot in the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks who have looked good in going 2-1-0 during a four game road trip.

Injuries for both teams have been front and center leading up to Tuesday night’s game – Ryan Miller won’t play after sustaining a lower body injury against the Islanders last time out and word is that David Krejci will be out 4-6 weeks with a partially torn MCL in his left knee.

Vancouver won the only meeting of the season between the teams – 5-2 on February 13.

The Vancouver Canucks seem to be over a mid-season slump that saw their offense dry up and their defense become a little too generous.

The Canucks are 6-3-0 in their last 10 games overall and have averaged a very good 3.7 goals per game over that span. Everyone seems to be contributing too. Daniel Sedin has two points in each of his last four games, Henrik has six assists in four games, Zack Kassian has three goals over his last two games and six in his past eight, Jannik Hansen has six points in six games, Shawn Matthias has five points in six games and Radim Vrbata has two points in two games. Lesser known names like Bo Horvat, Derek Dorsett and Adam Clendining have also been solid giving the Canuck three dangerous lines that are playing with a ton of confidence right now.

With Ryan Miller on the shelf the Canucks will turn to Eddie Lack to man the crease – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Lack has a 2.13 GAA in his last six games and made 27 saves against the Isles Sunday to preserve Vancouver’s eighth shutout of the season.

Simply put the Canucks are very good in both ends of the rink right now and may be better off with backup Eddie Lack patrolling the crease. The balance of this team is hard to defend right now and with the top line playing at a high level, the Canucks may be too much for the Bruins to handle.

The Boston Bruins continue to be one of the more disappointing teams in the NHL this season. They do own one of the Eastern Conference playoff spots but if they can’t snap a funk, they will find themselves falling out as quickly as they climbed in. Boston is 1-4-2 in their last seven games but the win came last time out – an impressive 6-2 beat down of the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

The Bruins offense has been unexpectedly average. Outside of their explosion on Sunday the Bruins have averaged about 2.25 goals per game the last month. Loui Eriksson has just two points in seven games, Milan Lucic has one point in five games and Chris Kelly is pointless in his last four games. The loss of David Krejci hurts a team that has struggled to score all season long and will likely continue to do so going forward. Interesting stat – the Bruins are 9-9-3 without Krejci this season.

Tuukka Rask figures to get the start between the pipes Tuesday night – he hasn’t been great lately.

Rask did pick up the win on Sunday but posted a 3.57 GA in four starts prior to that win. He is 1-1-2 with a 3.23 GAA and.873 save percentage in his last five games played – yuk!

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 8-1-4 in VAN last 13 overall.
• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 games following a win.
• BOS are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Pacific.
• BOS are 48-22 in their last 70 home games.
• Home team is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.

The Boston Bruins scare absolutely nobody right now – their offense and defense have been anything but impressive.

Now without David Krejci in the lineup and with Tuukka Rask looking absolutely ordinary expect a confident Canucks team to utilize their balance and solid backup goalkeeper en route to their fourth win in their last five tries against Boston.
