Vancouver ended a two game losing streak last night with a very impressive 4-1 win in St. Louis while the Avs enter tonight’s action having lost four games in a row.

A lot went right for the Vancouver Canucks in their 4-1 win last night – Ryan Miller bounced back from an ugly effort against the Stars in which he allowed 5 goals on 21 shots and the Canucks didn’t have to rely on the Sedin line for all of their offense.

Chris Higgins, Nick Bonino, Linden Vey and Jannik Hansen each scored last night in the win.

As nice as Vancouver’s win was against the Blues, they did get outshot by a wide margin and they were outplayed during stretches of that game. It was Ryan Miller that saved the day stopping 31 shots. But it may be Eddie Lack between the pipes tonight.

Lack relieved Miller in Dallas and has a 0-1-0 record so far with a 3-13 GAA and .872 save percentage.

Vancouver’s offense keeps clicking along averaging 3.17 goals per game – the power play is at 20%. The Canucks get a crack at an Avalanche team that is struggling in all areas of the game right now – a nice sign for a team that should be a tired bunch.

The Colorado Avalanche have been bad this year – just one win in seven games! The offense hasn’t done much averaging just 1.71 goals per game and the defense has not been good at all allowing 3.43 goals per game. But good news comes in the form of Seymon Varlamov who could return from injury tonight. That said he is just 0-2-1 so far this year with a .910 save percentage.

Nathan McKinnon and Jarome Iginla have yet to score a goal, Gabriel Landeskog has just two points in seven games, Alex Tanguay has three and no Avs player has more than four points in seven games.

No wonder this team is struggling. You’d have to think that a turnaround is imminent but at this point in time it is awfully hard to find anything positive in the Avalanche game.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 7-1 in VAN last 8 overall.
• Over is 7-2 in VAN last 9 road games.
• Under is 6-2 in VAN last 8 Fri. games.
• Over is 9-4-1 in COL last 14 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 7-2-2 in the last 11 meetings.
• VAN are 20-6 in the last 26 meetings.

While I don’t like the way Colorado has played – AT ALL, I do realize that the Canucks are a tired team – three games in four nights on the road is a tough task indeed. With Varlamov back in the fold and looking to make a little noise, take the Avalanche to create a glimmer of optimism tonight as they win ugly against an exhausted Canucks team.
