Louis when the Montreal Canadiens pay visit to the Blues. Montreal who sits first in the Eastern Conference standings will be out to win their second straight game against the Blues after losing five prior matchups while the Blues will look for just their second win during a four game home stand.

The Montreal Canadiens have risen to the top of the Eastern Conference standings on the heels of a 6-2-2 stretch. The Habs can thank the league’s best defense (just 131 goals against so far this year) for their success – the offense ranks in the bottom third of the league – just 2.56 goals per game.

The Canadiens go as Max Pacioretty goes. He, outside of Carey Price is the most important player on the squad. In fact he’s either scored or assisted on six of Montreal’s nine goals over the last four games. PK Subban has nine points in nine games, Brendan Gallagher had three points in two games and Nathan Belieu has two points in two games. The Canadiens are expecting Alex Galchenyuk back in the lineup after missing two games with the flu – he will be a welcome sight for an offense that needs every hand on deck.

NHL MVP Carey Price will be in the crease for Montreal – he gives the team a chance to win each and every night. How good has he been lately? I’m glad you asked. He allowed no more than one goal in eight of his last 12 starts and is 10-1-1 over that span with a 1.14 goals-against average – as impressive a run a goaltender has had in recent memory, even more impressive considering the rash of injuries on the Canadiens Blue Line. But Price is 1-2-0 with a 3.25 GAA in three career starts in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues have looked just OK the last couple of weeks – they have fallen seven points behind Nashville for the Central Division lead but they are still one of the scariest rosters in the game. The Blues have speed, size and a scoring touch – they lead the NHL with a +40 goal differential thanks to the league’s third best offense and fourth best goals against in the league. They have gone just 6-4-0 in their last 10 games overall but are a much better team than they have been playing lately.

The Blues have been very good on home ice this season but have dropped two of three during their recent home stand. Offensively Vladimir Tarasenko continues to lead the way – he scored in Saturday’s loss to Pittsburgh and has four points in his two games, Alex Steen has three points in two games, TJ Oshie has 23 points in his last 21 games and Jaden Swartz and Ian Cole each have two points in their last two games.

It is unclear as to who Tuesday’s starter between the pipes will be. Brian Elliot has lost two straight starts with an ugly 6.18 GAA over that span while Jake Allen is 2-0-0 in his last two starts with a 1.05 GAA and .957 save percentage.

The choice seems simple to me.

NHL Gambling Trends

• MON are 9-2 in their last 11 road games.
• MON are 17-5 in their last 22 Tue. games.
• Under is 17-6-3 in MON last 26 road games.
• STL are 37-14 in their last 51 vs. Atlantic.
• STL are 60-24 in their last 84 home games.
• Under is 36-17-7 in STL last 60 Tue. games.

The St. Louis Blues haven’t exactly looked like the world beaters that they are the last couple of weeks – they look a tad vulnerable right now. Enter the surprisingly large underdog and Carey Price!

The Canadiens are absolutely elite when Price is suiting up – I just can’t go against Montreal when Price is slated to start.
