Free NHL Pick: Bruins vs. Jets Betting Lines & Preview

Boston vs Winnipeg Pick

NHL betting action sees the Boston Bruins taking on the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, December 19th at MTS Centre. Cappers Picks provides free NHL handicapping tips all season long.

Boston is fighting to keep its head above water in the Eastern Conference playoff race; it made a positive step in that direction with an OT win against Minnesota in Saint Paul on Wednesday.

Winnipeg is off to a hot start this season (by its standards) but loyal fans would be wise to have a dose of skepticism in the mix.

The Bruins received some further good news when goal-scoring threat David Krejci returned from injury for the game in Minny. The B’s were buoyed by his return and an OT marker by Loui Eriksson sealed a 3-2 victory.

At 16-13-3 and with only 35 points (lowly for Boston standards in this decade) the Bruins aren’t out of the woods just yet, but they’re trending in the right direction and they have the track record, so fans would be foolish to doubt them.

Every time the Jets play well, I wonder if their still-frenzied fans (since the franchise’s move a few years ago from Atlanta, thus bringing an NHL club back to the ‘Peg for the first time since 1996) are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

This hasn’t been a good hockey club since it has been located north of the border.

But, at 16-10-6, there’s nothing to complain about right now; Winnipeg’s 38 points are good for fourth in the murderous Central division. The Jets have found success so far with stingy goaltending and an excellent penalty-kill.

The Jets rank fourth and eighth in the NHL in those metrics, respectively.

Winnipeg does its scoring by committee, with captain Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and beefy D-man Dustin Byfuglien all playing a factor.

The stellar netminding has come from Michael Hutchinson. The 24-year old Ontario native has put up a goals-against average of 1.81 and a save percentage of .937 through 10 games – pretty impressive stuff.

But I can’t shake the fact that it feels like Boston is finding its legs. This is a hockey team that can heat up fast and can employ the lethal trio of good goaltending, gritty play and timely scoring.

The Bruins have a ways to climb, being a point behind rebuilding Florida and six points back of Toronto, above which you’d consider the upper crust of the Atlantic division.

Still, this team has been so good for so long that I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

4* NHL Free Play: Boston 4, Winnipeg 3

I think Boston will win on the road in a game that Winnipeg perhaps should have had, thus starting a nagging feeling in the Manitoban’s psyche.
