Two of the most successful teams in recent history in the NHL meet in Los Angeles Wednesday night trying to erase the memory of an unflattering stretch that preceded the All-Star Break.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings have combined to win four of the last six Stanley Cups but neither looked like a contender in the two weeks leading up to the Break. Chicago went just 5-5-0 while the Kings scuffled to a 2-3-5 record in their last 10 games.

The Chicago Blackhawks entered the All-Star break with a little optimism – the team had won two straight games after a totally underwhelming couple of weeks preceded the wins.

The Blackhawks are still one of the elite offensive teams in the game- they are averaging 3.02 goals per game and are directing nearly 36 shots per game at their opposing goaltenders. The Blackhawks Hot List is full – everyone seems to be contributing which is a positive sign as we head into the stretch drive of the NHL season.

Marian Hossa and Brandon Saad each have seven points in their last six games, Patrick Sharp has three points in three games, Patrick Kane has three points in two games, Brian Bickell has seven points in seven games and on and on and on.

Translation – Chicago should OK in the offensive zone.

Corey Crawford will get the start between the pipes – he hasn’t been great lately – just 6-5-1 in his last 12 starts with a 2.89 GAA.

Crawford is 1-1-0 with a 4.41 GAA and .897 save percentage in his last two games – not good ahead of Wednesday night’s clash. However the Kings have been a cure for his ails during the regular season – Crawford is a terrific 6-1-0 in his last seven starts against LA with a 2.33 GAA.

For the Los Angeles Kings the All-Star break couldn’t have come at a better time. The Kings were 0-2-2 in their final four games before the break- nothing seemed to be going right for the team.

Case in point – the play of Jonathan Quick who is 0-3-3 in his last seven games with a 3.64 GAA. He still hasn’t won in 2015! To make matters a little scarier is the fact that he has traditionally struggled against the Blackhawks during the regular season where he is 1-4-0 in his last five games with a 4.06 GAA.

As a whole the Kings, who are known for strong defensive play have been just average this year – hence their placed in the standings. LA is surrendering 2.53 goals per game – ¼ of a goal more per game than Wednesday night’s foe – Chicago.

Offensively the Kings have been OK – their defense has let them down more often than not. The Hawks are averaging 2.72 goals per game but some of the regular producers have been mired in slumps. Jeff Carter has just one point in his last four games and Justin Williams in pointless in his last three.

With Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli on Injured Reserve, every King needs to be at the top of their game.

Some clearly aren’t and the Kings have suffered.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 10-2 in CHI last 12 vs. Western Conference.
• Under is 8-3-3 in CHI last 14 road games.
• CHI are 21-9 in their last 30 overall.
• Over is 12-5-2 in LA last 19 overall.
• CHI are 23-10 in the last 33 meetings.
• CHI are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Los Angeles.

Chicago has won four straight and five of six over Los Angeles in the regular season including three straight and seven of the last eight during the regular season at LA. I fully expect Chicago’s Regular Season dominance over the Kings to continue.
