Bruins vs. Blackhawks NHL Betting Preview

NHL Wednesday Hockey Preview features the Bruins and the Blackhawks matchup tonight, plus we cover other top games on tap for NHL betting action tonight…

NHL Hockey Betting – Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Wednesday night features a match-up between two of the original six NHL teams when the Chicago Blackhawks (7-3-3) host the Boston Bruins (8-3-3). The Bruins have been one of the better teams away from home this season, with a sports betting record of 4-2-2 away from TD Banknorth Garden.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are just one of four teams left that have not lost a game in regulation on their home ice with a dazzling home record of 6-0-2 for NHL gamblers.

Boston is currently on a three game winning streak heading into its match-up against the Blackhawks but potential Boston bettors should note that all three of their previous games were within friendly confines. In their last game, a 3-1 NHL wagering win against the Buffalo Sabres, RW Chuck Kobasew saw his first action in over a month after breaking his leg early in the season and tallied a goal and an assist to be named the first star in the game. Offensively, the Bruins three goal a game average has led to gamblers who bet on pro hockey ‘overs’ to go 8-5-1 with the Bruins this season.

Recently, the Bruins have been on fire defensively, only allowing seven goals in their past six games with two shutouts during that span. NHL bettors have especially taken note of goaltender Tim Thomas who is currently leading the league in save percentage (.944) and is tied for the lead in GAA (1.85). The Bruins record with Thomas in net is a moneymaking 5-2-2 against the pro hockey wagering odds.

With their hot start and current four game-winning streak, Blackhawks fans appear to finally have a winner to cheer for again. Over their last six games, the Blackhawks have been on a tear offensively with 28 goals scored, leading the ‘over’ to be 5-0-1 by the NHL gambling line during this stretch. 2007’s #1 overall draft pick, RW Patrick Kane, has been particularly impressive with his 18 points (7 G, 11 A) placing him fifth in points in the NHL.

Little known defenseman Aaron Johnson may have found a home with the Blackhawks after being on a different team in each of the past three seasons. Johnson’s +/- of 11 is the second best in the NHL and his six points after just 11 games leaves him just five more points from having his best year ever in that department. Goaltenders Nikolai Khabibulin and Cristobal Huet have been good for Blackhawks gamblers with a combined 2.41 GAA and a .917 save percentage so far this season.

Betting trends to know for the game are: Boston is 9-4 in its last 13 games against Western Conference opponents; Chicago is 15-37-4 in its last 56 against the Eastern Conference; and the home team is 6-2-1 per the closing NHL odds in their last nine head to head match-ups.

The current NHL line finds the Blackhawks sitting as -135 moneyline favorites in this game with a ‘total’ of 5.5 goals shaded towards the under at -120 odds.
