Sunday NFL Betting – New England To Put On A Show In England

The New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to United Kingdom to put the NFL on display. Hopefully the English fans over there like to see one-sided blowouts.

The New England Patriots are fresh off a 59-0 win over the winless Tennessee Titans, who are one of the worst teams in the AFC, and now go on the road to face one of the worst teams in the NFC, the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For Tampa Bay, they do end up losing a home game but realistically, they probably didn’t have much of a shot of winning this game at home anyways.

Patriots offense vs Buccaneers defense

The Patriots offense scored 59 points last week and there is a very good chance they do it again. While Tom Brady and the passing game finally found their feet last week, that’s not the only reason to expect an explosion of points.

One thing that flew under the radar was the fact that the Pats for the first time in a long time were able to run the ball with plenty of success. Running back Laurence Maroney carried the ball 16 times for 123 yards and even had the team’s first touchdown on a 45-yard scamper.

This week, the Pats get to face a rushing defense that allowed 262 rushing yards and three touchdowns to the Carolina Panthers last week, which means there is a very good chance that they’ll have some success too.

On top of that, the Bucs also have the distinction of being one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. Their pass defense has giving up eight passing plays of 40 yards or longer this year, which is the most in the NFL.

Buccaneers offense vs Patriots defense

There aren’t many bright spots here.

Ideally, the Bucs would like to control the clock with a good solid running game and then have quarterback Josh Johnson just manage a lead but that seems highly unlikely. Given the Bucs defensive deficiencies, they’ll likely be behind early on and will have to abandon the run.

The Patriots, and head coach Bill Belichick specifically, have a history of confusing young quarterbacks and baiting them into mistakes. Johnson is making just his fourth NFL start and has just three touchdown passes, five interceptions, three fumbles lost (seven total) and has been sacked 10 times in his previous three outings.

There really isn’t much hope for the Bucs in this game.

Outlook & Pick

Tom Brady is 13-0 against the NFC. All the matchups favor them. On top of that, the Bucs are leaving for England a day later and forfeiting one practice, which shows they already see the writing on the wall.

The Bucs coaching staff, offense and defense will be overmatched. Don’t be surprised if Brady and the Pats top 50 points for a second straight week.

Pick: Patriots -14.5
