Steelers vs Texans Week 4 NFL Betting Preview & Predictions

The Steelers and the Texans both enter this week’s matchup at 2-1. Both of those teams have high hopes for this season. The Texans are looking to get over the hump and get into the playoffs.

The Steelers want to get back to the Super Bowl like they did last season. Pittsburgh is coming off an ugly victory over the Colts, while the Texans are coming off a hard fought loss at New Orleans.

I expect this to be one of the best games of the week.

Pittsburgh’s offense has plenty of talent, but they have a big fundamental problem. The offensive line simply gets dominated on a weekly basis. This makes it difficult for Ben Roethlisberger to work his magic. Roethlisberger has just three touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He continues to take a beating each week. Rashard Mendenhall was terrific last year, but he is off to a slow start in 2011. He is averaging just three yards per carry so far this season. Mike Wallace has racked up 21 catches in just three games.

The Steelers defense had a tough first game, but they have bounced back to play much better the last two weeks. Lawrence Timmons and James Harrison lead the team in tackles, and this group of linebackers is the best in the league. Troy Polamalu is healthy and he already has three pass deflections and a fumble recovery for a touchdown this year. Last year this defense was the best in the NFL against the run. So far this season, they are ranked number one against the pass.

The Texans have a habit of looking like a team that will go deep in the playoffs, only to disappoint and fall just short of a playoff berth. The team absolutely thinks this is the year that will all change. It certainly helps them that Peyton Manning is out and the Colts shouldn’t be a factor in the AFC South. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Houston has plenty of talent to get the job done, but now they must go out and execute through the entire season.

Matt Schaub has an impressive passer rating of 101.9 through the team’s first three games. Andre Johnson may well be the best receiver in the league, and he already has 21 catches and two touchdowns this year. Arian Foster has yet to start this season, but he is expected to be ready to go for this matchup. Ben Tate has proven to be a nice backup at the tailback spot. The Texans defense has generally been the problem in the last few years, but they have improved. Johnathan Joseph and J.J. Watt are two big newcomers for this defense. Brian Cushing and Demeco Ryans give this team a couple of very talented linebackers.

It may not be a popular pick, but I’ll take the Steelers and the points here. Pittsburgh is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog.
