Week 14 Wagering Review

Week Fourteen Sunday NFL wagering is in the books, so let’s get to the highlights! We cover home favorites making good against the spread, as well as look indepth at all the top NFL week 14 games…

Eagles and Saints are Back and the Lions Are Still Looking for Their First Victory

Week Fourteen in the NFL was another perfect day for most sports betting fans. The NFL has been amazing this season with underdogs winning as many games as favorites. The BetUS online sportsbook has provided numerous online profits for NFL betting fans.

But it hasn’t been easy. The NFL is a fickle game where what seems like an obvious online bet choice on paper doesn’t always turn out that way.

Let’s get to Sunday’s re-cap!

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants – – This was one of my better online wagering picks of the day. It actually became my key pick this past Sunday because the G-Men were giving up 6 ½ points at home against the Eagles. Even though I really believe that the New York Giants are the best team in football, this game set up perfectly for the surging Eagles. The betting odds were enticing and the Eagles didn’t disappoint by beating the Giants straight-up. Both of these teams should make the playoffs. I see the Eagles winning out which means they grab a wildcard spot.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – – Who will the Eagles grab the wildcard spot from? The Dallas Cowboys who just aren’t as good as advertised. They built a lead up against the Pittsburgh Steelers as 3 point underdogs on the road against the spread but found a way to blow it in the fourth quarter. A lot of that had to do with Tony Romo who looked like a rookie against the Steelers’ blitz schemes. The Cowboys have been an iffy online betting proposition all season. They remained so against the Steelers by losing and dropping to 8 and 5. They have a couple of more loses coming their way in the next three weeks. The ‘Boys won’t make the playoffs.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints – – The Saints have to win out in order to have any chance at the playoffs. Well, they started the streak yesterday by beating the Atlanta Falcons 29 to 25. New Orleans was a 3 point favorite in the BetUS online sportsbook and ended up covering the spread by a single point. The difference this past Sunday for New Orleans? Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. Those two running backs are very, very good together. Thomas is fantastic and Bush is Bush. The Saints D is still shady but they have a shot in the ultra-trough NFC Conference to get a wildcard berth. A lot of things will have to go their way, however, including the Falcons losing another game or two.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions – – The Lions are three games away from going 0 and 16 after the Vikings came back and beat them 20 to 16 on Sunday. The online betting spread was Vikings by 13 ½, I believe. Whatever it was, the Vikings didn’t cover. Not that it matters to Detroit fans. The Lions should go 0 and 16 straight-up but their record against the BetUS online wagering spread will be closer to .300. Are they still a no-win team…technically?

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos – – The Broncos have a winning record at 8 and 5 straight-up so all of this talk of them not being worthy of the AFC West crown is ridiculous. They beat the Chiefs at home even though they didn’t cover the spread of around 8 ½ points, 24 to 17, but we have to remember that earlier this season the Chiefs actually beat the Broncos straight-up. Denver played a much smarter game on Sunday by trying to limit the Chiefs’ possessions. That will bode well for them come playoff time.

Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills – – This was a pick’em game in the BetUS online sportsbook. Football betting fans that picked the Dolphins weren’t disappointed because Miami won the game fairly easily 16 to 3. What’s up with Buffalo? They went from being a nice surprise to an okay team to flat out sucking. Here’s a question to J.P. Losman – – if you know that at any time you might need to step in for the guy ahead of you on the depth chart at quarterback, wouldn’t you try to prepare yourself? He looked like a bus driver out there who had just discovered what happens when he steps on the gas pedal. Awful.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chicago Bears – – The Bears were 5 ½ point favorites the last time I checked the BetUS online sportsbook and they pulled it off by beating the Jaguars 23 to 10. Jack Del Rio shouldn’t be on the Jags’ sidelines after this season. He’s lost the ability to fire up the team. That means he’s done as a coach in Jacksonville. I feel like sending him an axe and a piece of wood. The man needs something at this point – – anything. Sorry, Jack. I love you but you have to go.

Cleveland Browns vs. Tennessee Titans – – Hey, maybe the Jags and Browns could switch coaches because Romeo Crenel isn’t going to be wearing those ugly Browns’ colors after this season. Cleveland is just a terrible team. The Titans wasted them against the spread 28 to 9. On the flip side, Jeff Fischer is easily one of the best NFL coaches I’ve ever seen. The guy’s a winner. The Titans should secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They are the class of the AFC Conference and proved it again by pushing their straight-up record to 12 and 1 on the season.

New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49’ers – – This had to be the biggest upset of the day because the Jets were favored by at least a touchdown. Not only that but the 49’ers are supposed to be an awful team and a squad with Brett Favre, Laverneus Coles and Thomas Jones isn’t supposed to lose to a team with Shaun Hill behind center. Well, the Jets did lose. Now, the Jets, Patriots and Dolphins are all tied for first place in the AFC East. Who will get the AFC East crown? The Jets should win based on talent but who knows at this point?

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks – – It took guts and determination but the Pats beat Seattle straight-up 24 to 21 on Sunday. The Patriots were favored by slightly more than that. So, they didn’t cover the BetUS online wagering spread. Still, the Pats are in the midst of a playoff chase. I wouldn’t bet against them winning their division at this point. We’ll see what happens but the Pats have experience on their side.

Houston Texans vs. Green Bay Packers – – The Packers dropped their eighth game of the season by losing to the Texans at home. The talk is going to be all about how the Pack should have kept Favre over Rogers but that’s not the problem with this team. Their issue is learning how to win. Okay, maybe Rogers over Favre is the problem with this team. I’m not sure what the problem is. In any case the Packers were favored. So, dropping a game to the Texans straight-up means the season is over. Put away the cheeseheads, start planning for next year, etc. and all.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Indianapolis Colts – – The Colts have won six games in a row, are now 9 and 4 straight-up, and will be very, very dangerous in the playoffs. They also destroyed the BetUS online wagering spread by thumping the Bengals 34 to 9 on Sunday. I’m going to make a prediction right now – – the Colts will be in the AFC Championship Game. They have all of the tools to make a solid run in the playoffs and while the rest of the AFC contenders are fighting through injuries, at least the Steelers are, the Colts are getting healthy. Watch out.

St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals – – The Cardinals won their first divisional crown since 1975. The irony, of course, is that the Cardinals used to play in St. Louis. Well, they beat the St. Louis Rams in order get the divisional crown. Congratulations to them. They did it in style by squashing the spread by beating the Rams 34 to 10. Where do they go from here? Probably a first round bye and then a loss to a wildcard team in round two of the playoffs. Baby steps, right?
