NFL Week 12: Redskins vs Eagles Predictions

If familiarity breeds contempt, there should be animosity aplenty on Sunday when the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles meet at Lincoln Financial Field. Oddsmakers currently have the Eagles listed as 10-point favorites versus the Redskins, while the game’s total is sitting at 40½…

NFC East Picks – Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

All fingers are pointing towards Donavan McNabb to pull the Philadelphia Eagles within firing range of the playoffs. With the Cowboys winning another game against the Raiders, the lead in the NFC East is getting much larger. McNabb has been a known letdown when it comes to mounting pressure, and even though the Eagles have a sturdy record, their reputation is proceeding them as they host the Washington Redskins.

The Eagles have been a steady bet despite horrific inconsistencies on the field. They’re 12-6 ATS in their last 18 games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 efforts at home. However, against the Redskins they’re just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games despite going 5-5 SU in that same stretch. Even worse, they’re just 2-4 ATS when hosting the Redskins in their last 6 tries.

It’s kind of strange to think that the Redskins might actually be a threat to play the role of spoiler. I mean, this is a team that has been mired in dramatic power struggles at the top, and injury woes on the field. Clinton Portis, who has been sidelined by a concussion for the past two weeks, looks to have recovered and will likely play and that gives the Redskins another dimension against the dangerous Eagles. Washington Redskins (3-7 SU) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (6-4)
Sunday, November 29th — Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Philadelphia -9 (40.5)

Philadelphia won’t have the same fortune with their star tailback as Brian Westbrook remains on the shelf with severe concussion symptoms. As I’ve been saying for weeks, the major hurdle in grading Philly’s chances are rooted in the fact that the veteran McNabb is surrounded with NFL newbies. McCoy, Jackson, Maclin and Celek are all within their first three years of action and that’s not the type of roster you want protecting a pretty big spread for a wildly inconsistent Eagles team.

The Redskins, for whatever reason, have always been a strong bet in Philly. With a 4-2 ATS record in hand, and the Eagles dumbfounding oddsmakers with erratic play, I’m taking the Redskins with the points. Washington won’t win this game, but staying within a touchdown of the Eagles won’t be an issue. Get ready for a nail biter if you side with Washington on this football betting line, but don’t sweat it. They’re going to cover.

The Eagles will look to once again get some big plays against a pretty good Washington defense. Look for the Philly D to go after Jason Campbell to try and rattle him into turning the ball over.
