NFL Week 10 Football Betting – St. Louis Rams at New York Jets

The St. Louis Rams (2-6 SU, 3-5 ATS) slipped back into extreme mediocrity last week against the Cardinals. This week they will try to get back on the right track as they take on the New York Jets (5-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) in an NFL contest that is set to begin at 1 PM ET at Giants Stadium (artificial turf) in East Rutherford, NJ.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* STL has covered three of its last 11 games
* STL has lost 10 of its last 12 games SU
* STL has lost five of its last six road games SU
* STL has played nine of its last 12 road games UNDER the total
* NY has won four of its last five games SU
* NY has played eight of its last 12 games UNDER the total
* NY has covered two of its last six home games
* NY has won four of its last five home games SU
* NY has played five of its last seven home games UNDER the total

Also…

* Four of the last six meetings have gone OVER the total

The Rams had won their first two games under interim coach Jim Haslett, beating the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys, two teams who will fighting for a playoff berth. Then they went to Foxboro and fought tooth-and-nail with the defending AFC champion Patriots. They regressed last week at the Edward Jones Dome against Arizona, as they were outgained by a wide margin (510-231) in the process of going down to a 34-13, which was made less humiliating, on the surface, by a late touchdown. Steven Jackson (seven carries for 17 yards against the Cards) was booed off the field. Marc Bulger (6 TD’s, 5 INT’s, and 16 for 33 against ‘Zona) has been throwing off his back foot all season, and who could blame him? These guys can’t protect him worth a damn (24 sacks already).

Brett Favre is a little more mistake-prone than he was last year (12 interceptions), but he is getting the ball down the field (1812 yards, 15 TD’s). And Favre is operating at a high percentage pace (68.4% completions). The Jets are running the ball a lot better too, with Thomas Jones (4.5 ypc) and Leon Washington (4.9 ypc) making their attempts count. St. Louis has converted only 29% of its third down situations, and Jackson is such an iffy proposition that you never know from week to week whether he’ll provide any support for Bulger. Remember that in the win over Washington, the Rams gained only 200 yards. And against Arizona that figure was 231.

And St. Louis has scored more than 20 points in just one game, and that was the 34 points against a Dallas team that was suffering the effects of a lot of injuries and absences that week. This may be one of those instances where it’s just going to be impossible to trade points with the Jets, who have averaged 30 points over the last five games. “We’re not going to change our approach,” says Haslett. Maybe that’s the problem.

Well lay the points with the Jets, the 8.5-point favorite in the BetUS NFL pro football sports betting odds.
