What is going on in the NFC, where teams that figured to have their way (Green Bay, Minnesota, Dallas, New Orleans) have taken some really bad losses? AFC teams hog the top three spots this week.

  1. New York Jets (Last week 1) – Mark Sanchez 2009: 15 games, 20 interceptions, 63.0 QB rating. Mark Sanchez 2010: 5 games, 0 interceptions, 91.7 QB rating
  2. Baltimore Ravens (4) – Not having to deal with Randy Moss this weekend makes Baltimroe’s defense even more effective.
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers (2) – Roethlisberger’s return is under the radar due to Favre’s indiscretions.
  4. Atlanta Falcons (7) – Speaking of under the radar, has any team been so good so early and gotten so little recognition? Falcons may be this year’s Saints.
  5. Indianapolis Colts (11) – Big jump for a team that was life and death with the Chiefs. Colts’ defense is OK but can’t survive too many more injuries in the secondary.
  6. New York Giants (13) – With a lot of the NFC powers taking a step back, the Giants are moving forward. What they did to the Texans last weekend is illegal in most other states.
  7. New England Patriots (7) – Answer this question right and you’ll know get a good feel for this team: Can Brady and the offense control the ball and keep the porous defense off the field?
  8. Chicago Bears (12) – Nice little stretch coming up for the cubs – Seattle at home, Washington at home, bye week, then at Buffalo. Life is good.
  9. New Orleans Saints (3) – Whodat Nation might be wondering what’s going on, but it’s way too early to be concerned about a solid team that just turned the ball over too many times in Arizona.
  10. Green Bay Packers (5) – Last four weeks – 62 total points in two home games and 30 total points in two road games.
  11. Kansas City Chiefs (9) – Style points awarded for a decent effort in Indianapolis, where young teams often go to die. Chiefs still have separation in a mediocre AFC West.
  12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (25) – Fans in Tampa aren’t impressed with the good start. The team announced that it is likely that no home games will sell out, meaning games will be blacked out on local TV.
  13. Washington Redskins (18) – Hasn’t taken Mike Shanahan long to restore order to a franchise that has had a meddling owner, bad signings and a near-rebellion from Albert Haynesworth.
  14. Philadelphia Eagles (18) – Last season the Eagles got surprised (by the Raiders) on the West Coast. They didn’t make the same mistake this season, holding on to beat SF
  15. Arizona Cardinals (26) – Give these guys some love. After losing Warner and Boldin they were left for dead in the desert. Now they have to be favored to win the NFC West. Again.
  16. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

  17. Tennessee Titans (15) – Defense has 12 sacks in last two games, but secondary is still giving up huge chunks of real estate.
  18. Jacksonville Jaguars (19) – Most impressive stat – Jaguar games have gone Over four times as public still views this as a low-scoring team.
  19. Houston Texans (8) – Return of Brian Cushing didn’t much help a defense that gives up an average of 409 yards a game.
  20. Miami Dolphins (21) – Must have been some interesting film sessions for the special teams guys over the past 10 days.
  21. Oakland Raiders (30) – Could be time to stop laughing at the Raiders, who pushed around the Chargers last week.
  22. San Diego Chargers (16) – Starting 2-3 is not the end of the world in the AFC West, but the Chargers are 0-2 in the division and need to press the accelerator pedal a little harder.
  23. Cincinnati Bengals (20) – Bengals figured to get fat against bottom feeders Carolina, Cleveland and Tampa Bay, but managed to go only 1-2.
  24. Denver Broncos (23) — No truth to the rumor that Tim Tebow has joined the witness protection program.
  25. Dallas Cowboys (14) – Cowboys say that Wade Phillips doesn’t have to worry about being fired. Translation: Phillips needs to start worry about being fired.
  26. Minnesota Vikings (13) – To paraphrase the late Al McGuire: Close the prayer book, Brett. Mass is over.
  27. Detroit Lions (27) – OK, beating St. Louis like a drum doesn’t quite get you a spot in the front of the line. But Detroit has been knocking on the door all season.
  28. St. Louis (17) – Sam Bradford has been better than advertised, but the Rams have to get the kid some receivers.
  29. Seattle Seahawks (24) – Seattle desperately hopes Marshawn Lynch can stabilize what has been an erratic offense so far this season.
  30. Cleveland Browns (28) – Colt McCoy may get his first start at QB this Sunday against the Steelers. In Pittsburgh. Gee thanks, coach.
  31. Carolina Panthers (31) – Look on the bright side of things: They saved a lot of money by letting Julius Peppers go.
  32. San Francisco 49ers (29) – The owner says the Niners will still make the playoffs, despite fact that SF is in a deeper hole than those miners in Chile were.
  33. Buffalo Bills (32) – Owner Ralph Wilson admitted the obvious this week – the team is bad and needs at least three years to get better. We assume that means three years on top of the last decade in which they have also been lousy.
