NFL Game Summaries – Week 14 Capsule Matchups

Week 14 in the NFL is in the books. The Weisguy takes over for Matt and offers up these recaps for your NFL viewing pleasure.

Pittsburgh 14 – Cleveland 3
The Thursday nighter wasn’t the most elegant game to watch.  Pittsburgh won but Big Ben got banged up and once again James Harrison delivered a controversial hit.  I didn’t like the call – it looked like McCoy was going to hold on to the ball.

New England 34 – Washington 27
Rob Gronkowski set a record for most TDs by a TE in a season proving that with Tom Brady at the controls the Pats can run whatever offense they want.  Also proven this week is that the Pats defense is brutal.  They were outgained by the Skins in this one and let Roy Helu rush for 126.

New Orleans 22 – Tennessee 17
When the Titans lost their starting QB it should have been game over but they hung around and could have stolen the game on the last play.  New Orleans is unbeatable at home but ordinary on the road too often.

Philadelphia 26 – Miami 10
The Eagles exploded in the second quarter with 24 points.  Other than that they were pretty ordinary.  Miami, even less than that.

Atlanta 31 – Carolina 23
The Falcons had to have this one and came through.  After being down 23-7 at halftime they shutout the Panthers in the second half to achieve victory.  Matty Ice was that indeed with 4 TDs and no picks.

Jacksonville 41 – Tampa Bay 14
Normally it takes about 3 games for the Jags to put up this many points.  In this case the Bucs went up 14-0 then handed them the game, literally with 7 turnovers.  Even Blaine Gabbert couldn’t screw that up. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Houston 20 – Cincinnati 19
T.J. Yates just wouldn’t be denied in this one.  The Bengals could only get into the end zone one time in losing this pivotal game.  The playoff window is closing rapidly.  Too bad I like these guys.

Detroit 34 – Minnesota 28
The Lions might have eased up a little too early in this one for investors.  Matt Stafford was money in the first half as they built a lead but they were sluggish in the second half…but it didn’t cost them.

New York Jets 37 – Kansas City 10
No surprises in this one.  The Chiefs are awful on offense with Tyler Palko at the controls while the Jets are gathering steam for a playoff push.  Shonn Greene was fantastic with 129 yards.

Baltimore 24 – Indianapolis 10
The Ravens were probably expected to win by more but what would it have mattered.  With Ray Lewis sidelined they held the Colts to 158 total yards.  The running game was solid and the game was easy like it was supposed to be.

Denver 13 – Chicago 10
Tebow vs Hanie and Tebow wins…no surprise there.  These teams were both scoreless at the half but you can’t expect to beat a Tebow led in overtime can you?  Are these really  what playoff teams look like?

Arizona 21 – San Francisco 19
The Niners are just not the same team away from home, especially Alex Smith, who looked worse than ordinary on Sunday.  They couldn’t cover Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals kept feeding him.  Arizona is wishing the season had more than a few weeks left they are finally hitting their stride

San Diego 37 – Buffalo 10
The same for the Chargers who are looking fantastic but it just might be too little too late.   They are still mathematically in the hunt but will have to be perfect.  The math booted out the Bills a little after we all did mentally.

Green Bay 46 – Oakland 16
I thought the Raiders would give the Packers more of a game but I was dead wrong.  Green Bay wins easily.  The only negative was Greg Jennings left the game early with an injury.

New York Giants 37 – Dallas 34
Quite the choke job in Big D.  Giants storm back and win it down 12 with 5 minutes to go.  You would think it would be curtains for the Cowboys but they will have a chance to redeem themselves in a few weeks at New York.
