NFL Game Summaries – Week 13 Capsule Matchups
Week 12 in the NFL is in the books. The Weisguy takes over for Matt and offers up these recaps for your NFL viewing pleasure.
Seattle 31 – Philadelphia 14
Vince Young looked pathetic but he didn’t get much help from his teammates. Maybe Pete Caroll is a better NFL coach then we gave him credit for. He just might be a crappy personnel guy.
New England 31 – Indianapolis 24
Don’t be fooled by the score. Indianapolis scored the last 17 points of the ball game. Much to the chagrin of Pats backers everywhere.
Denver 35 – Minnesota 32
Tim Tebow leads the way to another victory only this time it wasn’t in spite of him. He easily had his best day passing as a pro hooking up with DeMaryius Thomas multiple times on big plays.
Tennessee 23 – Buffalo 17
The Bills outgained their opponents but were done in by turnovers. Losing that battle cost them the game as their season spirals into meaninglessville. Tennessee keeps their playoff hopes alive.
Miami 34 – Oakland 14
The Raiders sputtered in a game I thought they would handle easily. They just couldn’t run the ball or stop the run. The former is usually their strong suit and Carson Palmer couldn’t compensate.
New York Jets 34 – Washington 19
It took them awhile but the Jets eventually put the Skins in their place. It wasn’t pretty but it has kept them alive for another week. The AFC is really bunchy for that last Wild Card spot.
Houston 17 – Atlanta 10
The Falcons were brutal in a critical game that could have given them a leg up in terms of the playoffs. T.J. Yates was adequate for Houston but it was hardly a confidence inspiring performance.
Pittsburgh 35 – Cincinnati 7
Final score makes it look worse than it actually was. The Bengals are a pretty good team but not good enough to beat others when they shoot themselves in the foot. They lost the turnover battle and had 10 penalties. Still in the playoff race though, for now. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Carolina 38 – Tampa Bay 19
Josh Freeman couldn’t answer the bell and Josh Johnson replaced him. He wasn’t terrible but without much support from the running game he was limited. Cam Newton set a rushing TD record. Not bad for a rookie.
Baltimore 24 – Cleveland 10
The Ravens punished the Browns on the ground. That is the only thing that kept this one from looking as bad on paper as it did on the tube. If you consider giving 290 yards rushing looking good on paper.
Green Bay 38 – New York Giants 35
The Giants gave the Packers all they could handle and then some. But with the game hanging in the balance Aaron Rodgers calmly led a game winning drive to preserve the perfect season. Its just the kind of close call a team like this needs to keep focused.
Arizona 19 – Dallas 13
With the Giants losing the Cowboys blew a real opportunity to create some distance in the NFC East. It was a sluggish performance that they will be kicking themselves about if they get left out of the playoffs in the NFC.
San Francisco 26 – St. Louis 0
I suppose it is fitting that San Francisco used a dominating defensive effort to clinch the division. They held the Rams to a meagre 157 yards of offense while Alex Smith had his best day of the season. That is a winning combo for sure.
New Orleans 31 – Detroit 17
It wasn’t a great showing by the Lions but the Saints are difficult to stop on their home turf. They are sitting in a great spot in the NFC South and Drew Brees was red hot once again.
San Diego 38 – Jacksonville 14
The Chargers finally delivered the kind of performance we have been expecting all season long. Sadly it is probably too late for them to get back into the playoff picture. But it might have saved Norv Turner’s job…for now.
