Washington

I never understood why the number was dropping all week long in this one but with the result those Wise Guys clearly knew something I didn’t.  Now Washington is poised to really put some pressure on the NFC East with a soft game at St. Louis.

It is a back to back road situation but one that is winnable.

Against the Saints rookie QB Robert Griffin had one of the best debuts ever, made sweeter by the fact that his team actually won the game.

Griffin was very accurate and showed the athleticism we all expected when flushed.  He was a great story with rookie back Alfred Morris also having a strong debut with nearly 100 yards and a couple of TDs.

It looks like the coach is determined to prove he can make any running back a star once again.

The Redskins dramatically over-perfomed last week primarily because of the two rookies mentioned above.  Can they honestly expect back to back performances of such high calibre?  Perhaps not but that is why their opponent this week is so key.

St. Louis is not very good and with this number resting where it is Washington is the smart play.

St. Louis

The Rams may have taken the loss at Detroit but they made more of a game of it than pretty much anyone expected. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

This is a case where the final score doesn’t tell the true story.  It was primarily turnovers that kept the Lions from grinding up the Rams in the opener.  They outgained them on the ground and were doubled up in terms of yardage through the air.

They now return home hoping to avoid an 0-2 start.

It is sometimes hard to tell whether Sam Bradford isn’t really a stud QB or whether he is just surrounded by completely hapless talent that will never let him reveal his true nature.

He was accurate against Detroit but wasn’t able to hit for any big plays (longest gain was 23 yards).

As a result the Rams have to be perfect for too long to put points on the board – and they rarely are.

These teams have met in each of the last 4 season, splitting the games – each team winning once on the road and once at home.  St. Louis has been 3-1 ATS in those contests and not once has been the favourite.

After last week the perception is all on the side of Washington but since it is game one it is possible the Rams have improved.

Possible but not probable.
