Washington
The Redskins are surprisingly in the thick of it at 3-3. Amazingly every game but their loss to St. Louis has been close and with victories over Dallas and Philadelphia they are 2-0 in the division so even though they are a game back of the Eagles and Giants right now they can easily make that up as they load up on division games down the road. Last week they lost to Indy by only three but that game was not as close as the final score indicated.
I said their record is surprising because the Redskins are giving up more yards per game than any team in the league. That total is 420 yards per game but what is even more amazing is that they are only giving up 19 points per game, good for 14th in the league. Something has got to give in the future because they are not creating many turnovers to combat the yardage they are allowing.
On offense they have similarly confusing stats although not as extreme. With their limited personnel they Skins are able to move the ball, they are 15th in the league in yards, but they have trouble putting points on the board, 20th (18.8ppg).
When you look at these numbers it is easy to say that the Redskins have been more lucky than good making them hard to bet with and difficult to bet against. 
Chicago
Chicago is another team that seems to be defying understanding at this point. They are alone in first place in the NFC Central but have been outplayed for significant stretches of the season benefiting from penalties and luck on more than one occasion. This week’s matchup is an important conference battle between two teams that might be dueling it out for the final playoff spot in the NFC come December.
The Bears have been winning despite the fact that they are the worst in the league, by far, at protecting the quarterback. Bears QB have been sacked an astounding 27 times already resulting in a concussion and some missed time for starter Jay Cutler. Even when they keep him upright it seems that Cutler is struggling a bit with OC Mike Martz’ new system. All of which is further complicated by the fact that the Bears do not run the ball well at less than 100 yards per game.
What has been saving them is defense and special teams. The defense is third in the league in rushing yards allowed and points allowed and the Bears have two punt returns for TDs this season courtesy of Devin Hester. Strong play on special teams is setting up the offense and helping the defense manage the game. The defense isn’t as nasty as the one from a few years back but they are still able to make the offense uncomfortable and force the action.
The Pick: I am not really a fan of what either team is selling so far this season. Still the Bears at -3 are not a bad option this week as I think they will win the game.
