Texans vs. Saints NFL-X Pick / Gambling Preview (Aug. 21)

Poolside rants weighs in with some picks for Saturday football gambling action…NFL Pre-Season style. The Houston Texans vs. New Orleans Saints will both be trying to pick up a win when they battle in the Superdome…

NFL Betting – Saints Return Home For Preseason Tilt Against Texans

The longest Mardi Gras celebrations ever to take place in the city of New Orleans began last February when the Saints bested the Indianapolis Colts to win their first-ever Super Bowl down in Miami.

After watching the way the team performed last week in their preseason opener against the New England Patriots, it seems as though the hangover from those celebrations may still exist among at least a few of those players. Now, the Saints return home to the Louisiana Superdome where fans will welcome them back as they get set to face the Houston Texans in a match up of high-powered offenses, and opportune defenses.

Betting Preview: Texans

The Texans looked every bit the part of a legitimate playoff contender when their starters were on the field in their 19-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in week one of the preseason. While all of the talk has been about the high-flying offensive attack, it was the Houston defense that made a statement against Matt Leinart and company down in the desert, particularly the starting defensive line that was in the backfield causing havoc on nearly every play.

The Texans rushed, sacked, pressured, and forced fumbles in Arizona, including nearly ending wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s season with a massive collision after he made an outstanding grab. Andre Johnson caught a 44-yard deep ball as the Texans’ offense opened up, making this look like a team finally complete enough to make some noise in the AFC South, something Houston will continue to build on against the Saints.

Betting Preview: Saints

New Orleans didn’t look terrible against the Patriots, but it also didn’t look near the team that went all the way less than six months ago. Dropped balls and penalties plagued a starting offense that is known for making magic, proof that head coach Sean Payton and his staff have a lot of work to do to not only get their team in game shape, but also to make sure that they are in the right mindset as the season approaches. Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas will once against handle the rushing duties, but look for more big plays and quick strikes as the Saints look to give their fans a reminder of just how dangerous they are.

Bet on NFL Match Up: Texans vs Saints

Both of these teams have big time offenses, as well as defenses that are on the rise, and while the Saints exploded a year ago in going all the way, this may be the year that the Texans finally break over that mediocrity hump and make it to the postseason. Those goals are big, but they start here in the preseason, where both starting units will get an excellent test down in New Orleans.
