Seattle has already clinched a playoff spot on the heels of an impressive four game win streak while the Rams have been playing much better of late in beating and tying the 49ers and in laying a beating on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. This is an interesting game to call especially if Coach Pete Carroll decides to rest a few of his starters this week.

The offseason move to bring in Coach Jeff Fisher paid immediate dividends for the St. Louis Rams who looked like a legitimate NFL team for the first time in years. St. Louis still has some work to do but the pieces are in place for the Rams and those pieces are finally responding in a positive way on the field.

St. Louis still struggles offensively – Sam Bradford has looked so good at times this season and so bad at others. St. Louis comes to Seattle with the league’s 19th ranked passing game and the NFL’s 19th ranked rushing attack. They score an average of 19.07 points per game – 26th in the NFL. Names like Bradford, Danny Amendola, Chris Givens, Steven Jackson and rookie RB Daryl Richardson all had OK years and could flourish next year in year 2 in Jeff Fisher’s scheme – but that is next year!

Jeff Fisher’s biggest contribution to the Rams has been on the defensive side of the ball. He has brought a hard-nosed approach, an accountability that hadn’t been seen in St. Louis in a long time. The Rams enter the final week with the league’s 15th ranked pass defense, the 16th best rush “D” and they are 14th in points against. Hey – average is a heck of a lot better than we have seen with the Rams in the past!

The Seattle Seahawks are on a roll! Need proof? Take a look at the 150 points that they have scored in the last three games! Take a look at the teams that they have beaten during their four game win streak as well. Not even the biggest die-hard Hawks fans could have predicted where this team would be at this point in time – LEGITIMATE THREATS TO WIN IT ALL! Last week’s beat down of the 49ers finally opened up a few eyes around the league – Seattle is good and they are dangerous as any team around. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Hawks have suddenly become the 8th ranked scoring team in the NFL – 26.13 points per game. Seattle is still a surprising 27th in passing – 188.13 yards per game and they are 2nd in rushing with an average of 161.73 yards per game. Russell Wilson has emerged as a Rookie of the Year candidate with his arm and his legs, Marshawn Lynch has elevated himself to the top tier of NFL running backs and the duo of Sidney Rice and Golden Tate have proven reliable and dangerous when needed. Seattle’s offense is light years ahead of where anyone could have predicted making them an unforeseen Super Bowl contender.

If you think the Seattle offense has been good take a look at the defense! They allow a league-low 15.47 points per game; they are 5th against the pass and 11th against the run. At home this unit is lethal as the crowd gives them what almost appears to be an unfair advantage.

Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• St. Louis is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of St. Louis’s last 5 games when playing Seattle
• The total has gone UNDER in 13 of St. Louis’s last 18 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 6 of St. Louis’s last 9 games
• The total has gone OVER in 5 of Seattle’s last 5 games
• Seattle is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home
• Seattle is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against St. Louis
• Seattle is 13-2 SU in its last 15 games when playing St. Louis

Seattle has looked unstoppable offensively the last month and the only thing that could slow them is if Pete Carroll holds them off the field. Home Field advantage is enormous for the Hawks – no offense can comfortably operate in CenturyLink. I hate double digit spreads but in this case, I would be foolish to go against Seattle. Seattle gets out to a big lead and rides their running game to an easy win.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -10 1/2
