St. Louis Rams Super Bowl XLIX Betting Lines & 2014 NFL Preview

2014 St. Louis Rams Season Predictions

The St. Louis Rams enter another season full of promise – promise that Sam Bradford can finally shake the injury and inconsistency bug and can take the Rams to a different level.

St. Louis has the dangerous Tavon Austin and promising running back Zac Stacy supporting the injury prone quarterback so things, on paper, are looking up.

  • Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 50/1
  • Odds to win the 2015 NFC Conference: 25/1
  • Odds to Win the 2014 NFC West: +700

The problem for the Rams is that they play in the uber-tough NFC West and they will have to defeat a host of elite clubs to even challenge for a playoff spot. So how will the Rams fare in 2014? Let’s take a look.

Let’s not forget that this team was on the cusp and finished 7-9 last season with Kellen Clemens at the helm for the majority of the season. Say what you want about Sam Bradford but he is a major upgrade over Clemens.

The Rams got arguably the best prospect in the draft – O-lineman Greg Robinson who should make an enormous different up front – right away.

Pro-Bowler guard David Joseph was also signed to solidify what suddenly looks like a decent O-line.

Robinson should make it easier on Bradford and Zac Stacy who could have a huge year as the feature back in St. Louis. Stacy looked like the real deal down the stretch of the 2013 campaign – hopes are that he can carry that momentum over to this upcoming season.

For the Rams to be successful, they have to keep playing solid defense and there is no reason to think that they can’t be a top 10 squad this year.

A good defensive line got better with the free agent signing of Alex Carrington and the drafting of stud defensive tackle Aaron Donald out of Pittsburgh.

The secondary also got better at the 2014 draft. Both defensive back Lamarcus Joyner from Florida State and Maurice Alexander from Utah State were steals in the draft and could be very good for St. Louis this year.

Betting Prediction:

The Rams are in a tough position heading into this year – they play in a division in which their rivals combined for 25 wins last year.

They play the third toughest schedule in the NFL this year – daunting for any team.

Jeff Fisher is a very good coach and he has been given some weapons with which to operate. But trusting Sam Bradford is a tough even for the most ardent Rams fan. They look on paper like a competitive team – not bad but not great in any position on the field.

The fact that the Seahawks and the 49ers exist in their division and the rest of the NFC looks pretty good makes the Rams a poor bet to capture any type of Championship.

The best bet for Rams fans is the Over – 7.5 wins. They won 7 games last year and with a healthy Sam Bradford should be a win or two or three better this year.
