Surging Seahawks Battle Slumping Dolphins in Week 12

The Miami Dolphins return home this week with their tails between their legs to take on the Seattle Seahawks – a team that has proven dangerous in every aspect of the game the last few weeks. For Miami, it’s simple – win or kiss you improbable playoff hopes good-bye. For Seattle, it is just as simple – win and keep your realistic playoff hopes alive.

Needless to say there is plenty on the line this Sunday for both teams.

The Seattle Seahawks emerge from their bye staring with a possible Wild Card playoff spot in their grasps as healthy and as confident as they have been since Pete Carroll took over the team. They are potent in the run game, they are drastically improved in the passing game and they are an absolute nightmare for their opposition on defense.

Yes, Seattle is a good team, but they have been known to absolutely implode on the road!

Seattle enters Sunday`s game with the worst passing offense in the game – an average of just 174.80 yards per game. That stat is a tad misleading in my eyes – they were awful at the beginning of the year and they have become an efficient, big play unit that benefits from teams expecting Marshawn Lynch and Seattle`s 6th ranked running game to get the ball each and every snap.

Sidney Rice and Golden Tate have gotten open more regularly as the season has rolled on and in turn Russell Wilson, who throws a tremendous deep ball, has hooked up with them more regularly. Make no mistake about it though – the Seahawks will wear Marshawn Lynch out and try the occasional big play down field.

Seattle`s defense has been solid all season long – much better and much more consistent than the Buffalo unit that all-but stopped the Dolphins last week. The Hawks are third against the pass, twelfth versus the run and they give up just 16.10 points per game – good for second in the NFL.

The Miami Dolphins looked like they would emerge as the surprise team in the AFC before a three game losing streak derailed any plans for them to become the Cinderella Story of the 2012 season. Reggie Bush seems to have lost his way and Ryan Tannehill has hit the rookie wall way too early in the campaign.

Miami comes into Sunday`s game with the league`s 24th ranked passing game (204 yards per game) and the 21st ranked rushing game – just over 100 yards per game and they score just an average of 18.70 points per game – 26th in the NFL. The offense is stuck in neutral at the moment with seemingly little reason for optimism.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Miami`s defense has allowed just 20.50 points per game this season – 8th in the NFL thanks to a 9th ranked run defense that has limited their opponents to 96.80 yards per game. However, the pass defense has been brutal! When they aren`t getting flagged as they did on numerous occasions last Thursday against the Bills, they are giving up huge plays. Miami gives up 266.30 yards per game through the air – 27th in the NFL.

Betting Prediction:

• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Seattle’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Miami
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Seattle’s last 5 games on the road
• The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Seattle’s last 10 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Seattle’s last 6 games when playing Miami
• The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Miami’s last 5 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Miami’s last 5 games when playing at home against Seattle
• Miami is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Seattle
• Miami is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Seattle

If you watched last Thursday night`s game you would have seen that Miami appeared outclassed by Buffalo`s terrible defense. Imagine how they will look against Seattle! The Hawks have had an extra week off; they are confident, healthy and clicking on just about every cylinder. It all adds up to a long day for Miami fans!

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -3
