Carolina Panthers vs. Minnesota Vikings NFL Gambling Prediction & Week 6 Preview

Carolina vs. Minnesota NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

***(Write-up assumes…AP plays —- with the terrible news we’ve learned Friday)

Both of these teams have struggled so far this season, especially Minnesota who made the playoffs last year and has been totally flat all season long. The trouble has been at the quarterback spot which is why they acquired Josh Freeman after he was jettisoned by the Bucs…anything is an improvement over Christian Ponder.

The Panthers may have some certainty at QB with Cam Newton but that hasn’t been turning into wins this season. The only good thing for the Panthers is that all the other teams in the NFC West, save New Orleans, have been terrible too.

They are actually in second place right now.

Carolina

This may be a road game but Carolina has a great opportunity here to take advantage of a Minnesota team in turmoil. The Panthers have some weird numbers going on as they are 1-3 despite giving up just 14.5ppg – 3rd in the league.

They are actually in the top 8 in all defensive categories, helped by their shutout of the Giants a few weeks back no doubt but they have been solid in other contests as well. Defending the Vikings is pretty obvious stuff. just contain RB Adrian Peterson and the rest takes care of itself.

Offensively Cam Newton needs to get a 30th ranked passing attack going. His numbers have not been good this season but he is still the ultimate threat as his rushing totals indicate.

He needs to get WR Steve Smith more involved as mighty mouse still can get open when he needs to. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Minnesota

I am trying to think of another situation where a QB was picked up off the scrap heap and it worked out like Minnesota is hoping it will with Josh Freeman – the odds are not in their favour but why not take the shot. From what I have heard he is not starting until next week so this week we will see more of Matt Cassel.

The weird thing is that as much heat as the Vikings signal callers are getting the team is scoring points, they are actually 4th in the league. Kind of like the Panthers defense though it just isn’t getting the results you would expect.

Before the season started Adrian Peterson was talking about ripping off 2500 yards this year. He is a ways off that pace but you know he can explode in any game and will be a factor in this one.

Minnesota has the second worst pass defense in the league but that may not hurt them too much in this one because of Newton’s inaccuracy.

This is a weird game that could really go either way.

Spread Pick: Carolina +2.5
