For New England QB Tom Brady returns but some question whether he will be able to turn a receiving corps full of no-names into an efficient group. Meanwhile, in Buffalo they actually have a decent group of pass catchers but huge questions surround who will deliver the ball – will it be Jeff Tuel or E.J. Manuel – neither of whom has any experience at this level.

It should make for an interesting contest and at the very least we will learn a lot about both clubs. Kind of bettor beware though. There are better opportunities on the board most likely.

New England

The more things change the more they stay the same. New England enters the season as the overwhelming favourite in the AFC East even though the cast of characters other than Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick are always changing.

This season you would think it might not be a bad idea to be more balanced offensively because running back could be a strength but that seems doubtful at this stage. Brady has “made” receivers before and will attempt to do so again starting Sunday. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively, this unit is always solid. They may not have elite players but they are good at filling their roles and as long as the offense stays elite they don’t have to win games for them.

I am curious to see how it all fits together on Sunday. Things might be more different than we think which could change how we bet or fade New England this season.

Buffalo

The Bills are trying to start anew with a new coach and a new quarterback but the process has not exactly gone as planned. Top pick E.J. Manuel was supposed to challenge Kevin Kolb this season but Kolb is out for the year and Manuel may not be ready to go on Sunday.

That would lead Jeff Tuel to start, which is hardly inspiring given he has never played a down in a game and was an undrafted free agent pickup. That doesn’t give a lot of hope for a passing game that was just supposed to keep defenses honest so that dynamic RB C.J. Spiller could do his thing.

You can bet the Belichick is foaming at the mouth on how to make it difficult for whichever rookie QB actually plays. On defense the Bills have the makings of a pretty good unit with some playmakers at all levels.

They might be catching New England at just the right time too. This one could be very interesting.
