Cappers Picks Weekly Handicapping Preview – Week 14

The Jets fooled me again! I’m done with Rex Ryan’s club and their inconsistency Against the Spread. Week 13 saw me go 2-2 – my worst week in quite a while. Week 14 will be different!

Once again, as the season wears down, there are some quality matchups on the NFL slate and plenty of opportunity to turn some wagering profits. Not to be deterred, I will take a stab at a few marquee matchups in the Cappers Picks Weekly Handicapping Preview – Week 14.

WEEK 12 ATS PICKS RECORD: 2-2-0
SEASON ATS PICKS RECORD: 33-21-2

New Orleans at Tennessee

Sunday, December 11, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Saints -4

It is almost unfathomable to think that the Saints are only favored by 4 points in this game. I guess it has a lot to do with New Orleans’s poor road record and because of the troubles they have had in the past against Tennessee. After all, the Saints are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games on the road and in their last six games versus the Titans they are 1-5 SU and 1-4-1 ATS.

New Orleans will score some points in this game – it is hard to imagine the Titans being able to match them in that department. The Saints average 32.75 points per game (2nd in the NFL) and Tennessee averages 20.75 (21st in the league). Drew Brees has been on fire of late, throwing for 1,027 yards with a 9-to-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio over his last three games. He has now thrown for 300 yards in nine games this season.

Chris Johnson has been Hot as well. He has 100+ yards rushing in three of his last four games. He and the improving running game may serve to keep Brees and the boys off the field for a good part of this game. But when the Saints offense is allowed to operate, they are virtually unstoppable.

This may be the gimme of the week – act quickly before the line creeps higher! Pick: New Orleans Saints -4

Atlanta at Carolina

Sunday, December 11, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Falcons -2 ½

This is an interesting matchup of the Carolina’s 5th best rushing offense against Atlanta’s third best rushing defense. The Panthers have won two straight games while the Falcons are coming off a totally underwhelming effort in a loss to the injury ravaged Houston Texans.

Atlanta has been poor on the road as of late – 2-4 ATS in their last six away from home but they have fared well against the Panthers in recent meetings – 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six versus Carolina. But Matt Ryan is struggling and Michael Turner appears to be wearing down as he usually does at this point of the season (just 104 yards combined and no scores in his last two games).

The Falcons are ripe for the picking – take the Panthers to make it three straight wins on Sunday! Pick: Carolina Panthers +2 ½

Chicago at Denver

Sunday, December 11, 4:05 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Broncos -3 ½

The Denver Broncos have won five straight games and are in the thick of the Wild Card Race in the AFC – unbelievable! The Bears have lost two straight games, and are going to be without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte for the foreseeable future. Absolutely nothing is going right for Chicago and absolutely everything is going right for Denver. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Denver has been surprisingly poor at home lately – 2-4 SU in six and 1-4 ATS in five. They have also struggled versus the Bears in recent meetings – 3-6 SU in nine and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven.

However, with the Broncos defense playing the way it has been and with the ridiculously overhyped “Tebow factor” it is hard to imagine the Bears keeping within a field goal. Chicago only scored 3 points against the woeful Chiefs last week – nuff said! Pick: Denver Broncos -3 ½

NY Giants at Dallas

Sunday, December 11, 8:30 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Cowboys -3 ½

The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys meet in the marquee matchup of Week 14 with each team struggling to cover the spread – the Giants are 1-3 ATS in their last four games and the Cowboys are 0-3 in their last three. The question for me in this game is – who do I trust more? Eli Manning or Tony Romo?

Eli Manning and the Giants almost did the unthinkable last week – beat the Green Bay Packers while the Cowboys completely laid an egg against Arizona in controversial and potentially team harming style. Ahmad Bradshaw is back for New York and with a game under his belt, expect a better outing than last week. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks were monsters last week as well. New York enters the game as the better of the two offensive teams.

The Giants are 5-2 SU in the last seven games between the two clubs and are 10-4-1 in the last 15 against Dallas. Dallas is just 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games at home versus the Giants.

Nothing is easy in the NFC East this season – nobody seems to want to win the division. I like the Giants to make things a little more interesting in the division with a win this week. Despite the loss last week, New York looked good while in a loss last week, Dallas looked bad. Pick: New York Giants +3 ½
