NFL Betting – Week 13 Picks

Week 12 was another very solid one but again a New York team kept me from going perfect damn Jets. This week I am going to the well once again and have picked out some marquee matchups to hang my hat on.

I am 9-2-1 in my ATS picks in the last three weeks – hopefully I can keep the roll going.

Enough chatter – let’s get on with the Cappers Picks Weekly Handicapping Preview – Week 13

WEEK 12 ATS PICKS RECORD: 3-1-0
SEASON ATS PICKS RECORD: 31-19-2

NY Jets at Washington

Sunday, December 4, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Jets -3

The New York Jets were perhaps lucky to beat Buffalo last week but they failed to cover the rather large 9 point spread. This week they take on a team with a far superior defense and an offense that has seemingly shaken the cobwebs that plagued them after Week 4. Rex Grossman and Roy Helu have put up two straight solid games.

The Jets have certainly struggled – just 3-6 ATS in their last nine games. They have also struggled on the road – 1-5 SU in their last six away from home. The Skins have been brutal at home – just 2-8 SU in their last 10 but they are 5-1 SU in their last six versus the Jets.

The Washington Redskins have looked decent in the past couple of weeks while the Jets have looked just OK. It is pretty hard to have any faith in a Jets team that looks so schizophrenic on both sides of the ball right now – take the Skins to considerably dent New York’s playoff hopes. The Jets simply aren’t that good! Pick: Washington Redskins +3

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh

Sunday, December 4, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Steelers -6 ½

Both of these teams failed to cover in their Week 12 games but both won SU. The Pittsburgh Steelers have dominated the series between the clubs – 8-2 SU in the last 10 but just a few weeks ago the Bengals played the Steelers tough but lost by 7. There has not been a blowout in the AFC North since Week 1 when the Ravens demolished the Steelers so expect a tight game in Pittsburgh.

The Cincinnati Bengals have been playing good football – they are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games, are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven on the road and are 6-2 SU in their last eight games overall.

While I expect the Steelers to win on Sunday, I think that the Bengals keep the game close – similar to what an underwhelming Chiefs team did on Sunday night. I would love the Total to move to 7 points but I will take the 6 ½ and roll with the surprising Bengals. Pick: Cincinnati Bengals +6 ½ [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Carolina at Tampa Bay

Sunday, December 4, 1:00 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Buccaneers -3 ½

Has anyone else lost faith in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Tampa made Chris Johnson look exceptional last week – Johnson rushed for 190! The Bucs are 30th against the run and now face the league’s second best rushing offense – The Panthers have two very good running backs and some guy named Cam Newton.

Carolina is a better team than their record suggests while the Bucs have been turnover prone and unable to get it done when it matters most.

Look for the Panthers to run all over Tampa Bay on Sunday and for their underwhelming defense to do just enough. In a high scoring game, I like the Panthers to record their second straight win on the road. Pick: Carolina Panthers +3 ½

San Diego at Jacksonville

Monday, December 5, 8:30 PM ET
NFL Betting Favorite: Chargers -1 ½

Two teams on losing streaks meet on Monday Night – for the Chargers they have lost six straight games while the Jaguars have lost 2 straight including a 20-13 home loss to the injury ravaged Houston Texans.

Both of these teams have been awful versus the spread lately – the Chargers are 0-5 ATS in their last five overall and are 1-6 ATS in their last seven on the road while the Jaguars are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall and are 2-4 ATS in their last six at home. The Jaguars are a mess – they learned Tuesday that their Head Coach Jack Del Rio was fired and their Defensive Coordinator is next.

The Chargers are a way better team than they have been playing. Despite a brutal record, this team somehow finds itself close to a playoff position. Expect the best of the Chargers to show up on Monday and for the Chargers to finally break a horrendous six game slide. They are healthyish, they are motivated and they are superior in every aspect of this game (except for running back of course)!

Pick: San Diego Chargers -1 ½
