Sunday Night NFL Betting – Dallas Cowboys vs New York Jets

The New York Jets have been a model of success in the two seasons since head coach Rex Ryan took over, advancing to the AFC Championship game in consecutive years.

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to mold their own success, but with former offensive coordinator Jason Garrett as the head coach, and Rex’s brother Rob as the new defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys changed direction after a six-win season in a year in which they were expected to show up at the Super Bowl hosted by their city. While the problems were about much more than the coaching staff, a fresh approach with two of the game’s most innovative and knowledgeable minds running the show in Garrett and Ryan should only mean good things in Dallas. The new staff will be able to rely on the return of a couple of key contributors that were sidelined a year ago, including most notably franchise quarterback Tony Romo.

With a solid receiving core that includes Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Jason Witten, and Felix Jones handling the bulk of the carries, the Cowboys’ offense should take a step forward with Garrett in control. There is still work to do on defense, and it will be interesting to see how the defense responds considering Rex’s knowledge with the system and his ability to identify it’s weaknesses.

That is one major edge that the Jets have heading into this game, in addition to the fact that they have home-field advantage. Ryan understands his brother’s 3-4 defense as well as anyone, and will likely be in the ear of quarterback Mark Sanchez identifying where he can find any potential weaknesses. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

While Rob may be able to do the same against the Jets’ defense, the presence of star players such as Darrelle Revis will make it harder for the Cowboys to break them. Dallas lacks a true playmaker of Revis’ caliber, and it will be interesting to see whether New York uses him against Bryant or Austin.

The Jets have been on the rise for a couple of seasons and Sanchez is now at the point where he is expected to have a significant impact. He has progressed well as a leader heading into this season, and week one will be a major test to determine how far along he has come.
